Merging Awareness Project

[edit]

Hi there! Since many users seem unaware of how, why and when to do a merge, it may be useful to set up a Mergism Awareness Project, or MAP for short (crappy acronym is mine :) ). I'd like your input on that, if possible. Thanks. Radiant_* 12:59, May 23, 2005 (UTC)

  • Please see Wikipedia:Merge. Your comments, as well as help in making this page more visible to the community at large, would be appreciated. And 'mergification' is a lovely neologism :) Radiant_* 07:19, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Poland-bio-stub

[edit]

Hi Joyous Joy! There were no objections, so I've just created {{Poland-bio-stub}}. Grutness...wha? 12:32, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll begin filling it very soon. Joyous 15:32, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Infamous's Adventures

[edit]

I've never heard of this "company" - it sounds like it's just a few guys remaking old Sierra games using a modern free game engine. It should probably be merged with Sierra Entertainment, Adventure Game Studio, or King's Quest. You could ask for a second opinion on the CVG-project talk page, but I think you'd be fine VFDing it as well, with a suggestion to merge/redirect. Andre (talk) 03:15, May 29, 2005 (UTC)

While you're at it, AGD Interactive should probably meet the same fate. Andre (talk) 03:19, May 29, 2005 (UTC)
  • Hi there! I noticed this notice... I'm well acquainted with both AGDI and Infamous. The former is pretty famous in the fangame community since they remade a couple of oldbies (KQ1 and KQ2, QfG2 pending) and did it so well that they got official permission from the owner (Sierra) to continue. The latter, however, is vanity, since while they have good intentions, they haven't yet released anything. Radiant_* 09:08, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

VfD closing help

[edit]

Good evening, Joy. I am attempting to close Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Harmonics Theory. This is a particularly confusing and contentious discussion that spilled over into many other pages. If you are online right now and are willing, I'd like to get a quick reality check from you.

After drafting my conclusions here, I realized that I knew what I needed to say after all. Thanks for letting me use your Talk page as a sounding board. Rossami (talk) 23:06, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Not sure which/if it was in one of the books... I found it in the Hitchhiker's Guide to Technology, a track being sold on iTunes.

I checked the article and took out a lot (probably more needs to come out, but I find it's better to be cautious on the first go-around; I've gotten carried away in the past). I also cut podshare, which is an old concept even if a new word, almost to nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody wants to VFD it! - DavidWBrooks 16:44, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, a redirect to spraydeck would seem to make perfect sense. The latter article seems to be pretty complete; I'm not sure if there's even anything that needs to be merged. (This reply is duplicated on my own talk page as well.) Cheers, --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 16:42, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for your comments. Of course, feel free to edit the main page if you have useful suggestions. Yours, Radiant_* 09:09, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC) (and hm, purgist and splurist? I like that :) )

Lucky Octavian on VfU

[edit]

Hi Joy! Thought I should inform you that I have placed the Lucky Octavian article which you deleted on WP:VFU. Sjakkalle (Check!) 11:46, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

(copied from User talk:gadfium)

Loooong ago, you did a bit of editing on this article. Does it actually make any sense? (Um, the article itself, not your specific edits). I can't figure out what it's talking about. Joyous 16:59, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know how valid this may be. I was just fixing links at the time. A google search only finds one reference other than Wikipedia and our clones: [1]. I can't say whether it's a neologism or a valid term.-gadfium 00:45, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Language of dna

[edit]

Wow, what a mess! I'd VfD that... It looks like an essay, and anything salvageable and encyclopedic is probably already in other relevant articles. (Disclaimer: I am not a biologist, and I don't even play one on TV.) Mindspillage (spill yours?) 05:34, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your support

[edit]

Thank you for voting on my RFA. Have some pie! I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of supporters (including several people that usually disagree with my opinion). I shall do my best with the proverbial mop. Yours, Radiant_>|< 08:02, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC)

I am afraid I am not qualified to answer your question. I have never heard of that mood, and it has a virtually nonexistent Google coverage. However, "evidential mood" and "quotative evidential" are existing concepts. It would probably require a real linguist or grammarian to tell whether "quotative evidential mood" makes any sense. Anyway, whatever happens to the article, it should say "evidential" instead of "evidental" :-) Sam Hocevar 11:48, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

response on WP:VPM

[edit]

Hi - just a quick note to let you know I appreciate how cordial your recent response was on WP:VPM. I think we should all make an effort to be much more friendly to the newcomers - I think your response is an excellent example. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:02, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. That's very kind. I'm particularly amused because, when I received the flag for your message, I was in the process of leaving a nasty-gram on a vandal's talk page. (Ok, it was a just a [[test2]] message, but the timing was great.) Joyous 04:11, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Admin?

[edit]

Hi Joy! I am very flattered that you think that I might be admin material, and if nominated I would definitely accept the nomination—as you say, that rollback button would certainly help me on RC patrol. My only worry is that it is that people might think that I am still a little inexperienced on Wikipedia, as I am have only been here since the end of January and am not quite at 3000 edits. However, if you think that it is worth a try then I would certainly like to be an admin. Thanks, JeremyA 04:46, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the nomination. I've done my best to answer the questions, but it's getting quite late here so I will probably hate my answers by the morning. Thanks again, JeremyA 05:58, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re: User 68.117.210.6

[edit]

Hmm. My apologies for overstepping; my higher brain functions must have been on autopilot. (I recognized the IP from previous vandalism, and saw that your userpage had been reverted today previously, saw "poop" in red, so reverting looked like the best course of action.) Oh well. Here's to happy endings. :) -- Hadal 05:35, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I suppose apologizing needlessly is a Canadianism I'll never quite shake. ;) And hey, you're no slouch when it comes to RC patrol either! I suspect we've shared more rollback conflicts than I realise. Cheers, -- Hadal 06:09, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Hi, Thray. I ran across Keenan houser that you tagged for VfD. I noticed you forgot to add the entry to the list of VfD discussions, so I put it in there for you. It's here. Joyous 06:33, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Oops. Sorry about that, thanks for doing it for me.

Thanks

Hi Joy! Thanks once again for nominating me to be an admin. The RFA was 100% successful!  :-) It has been a great pleasure to see some of the nice comments that people have left on my RFA page, I hope that I can live up to the trust that you, and they, have put in me. VfD Closing process

[edit]

Good afternoon, Joy. There's recently been some discussion about ways to simplify the VfD closing process. I know I have some pride-of-authorship issues and may not be as perfectly impartial as I'd like. Would you mind taking a few minutes to review the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Deletion process#Simplification and share your thoughts? Thanks. Rossami (talk) 20:37, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

about Staln

[edit]

Why are so fond of Stalin ??? He was a murderor and despot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please correct the article !!!!!

[edit]

What do you think about protecting Rape for a couple of hours, until the spammer loses interest? Joyous 00:03, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

Sounds like an excellent plan. --W(t) 00:04, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)
That's the version with the linkspam. Don't worry, we'll get there in the end :-P. --W(t) 00:08, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)
sigh. Fixing that now. Joyous 00:14, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

Yay!

[edit]

Glad to be back! Wonderful as alwys to hear from you. I see the tide of lunacy on the VfD and new pages sections hasn't been stemmed yet. Oh, well. I've actually made some real edits and written a new article with another on the way, perhaps a bit later this evening. Joy, you are more than welcome anytime of the day or night on my talk page. Thanks for the "yay!" XOXO, Lucky 6.9 18:34, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and listed it at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Mountain making. The Mountain article has a couple of redlinks for specific mountain-making mechanisms. I guess it's not a topic of great interest here. Cheers, -Willmcw 02:35, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)

never add anything harassing to my talk page again, understood? --151.203.14.47 15:50, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I won't have a need to add anything to your talk page if you refrain from vandalizing articles. Joyous 15:58, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
I don't care what your motivations are. Consider yourself restrained from contacting me. I repeat, do not under any circumstances communicate with me any further. You are forbidden to do so. --151.203.14.47 16:44, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Admin's noticeboard has been vandalized...

[edit]

You'll have to access it directly from the link in the Wikipedia administrators category to find it... it looks like Enviroknot, considering it's an all caps rant about the corresponding request for arbitration. --Chanting Fox 19:01, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Here's what I'm seeing...

[edit]

Motions and requests by the parties Place those on the discussion page WHERE WE WILL NEVER BOTHER LOOKING AND IF ANYTHING ACTAULLY GOES THERE WE'LL JUST BLANK IT.

RAUL654 THE ARBCOM VANDAL HAS BLANKED THE DISCUSSION PAGE.

HE REFUSES TO ANSWER GOOD-FAITH QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS BULLSHIT, BAD-FAITH RFAR.

THIS WHOLE THING IS A SHAM.

IT'S AN RFAR AGAINST KAINTHESCION/ELKABONG. ENVIROKNOT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM YET YOU ARBCOM BAD FAITH MORONS ARE SIGNING JUDGEMENTS ONLY ON ENVIROKNOT.

THIS IS BEYOND FUCKING STUPID AND INTO THE REALM OF COMPLETE ABUSE OF POWER. I HOPE YOU FUCKERS ARE HAPPY YOU'RE DRIVING SO MANY EDITORS AWAY.

EVERY TIME I SEE A NEW USER I'M GOING TO POINT THEM TO THIS CASE AND WARN THEM THAT IT'S JUST NOT WORTH RISKING HAVING TO DEAL WITH WIKIPEDIA'S INCESTUOUS RULERS IN ADMINSHIP AND ARBCOM.

That's the whole thing... that's what I'm seeing. --Chanting Fox 19:21, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I believe I may have found the culprit. Take a look at the edit page...

That's what's causing it... --Chanting Fox 19:28, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • It WAS the problem... removing that link fixed the problem... something tells me that this is a case of a vandalism tool being disguised as something ordinary. The effect it had on YOUR page was different from the one it had on the noticeboard.--Chanting Fox 19:39, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • I replaced that line myself after removing it. It appears that the vandal tied the rant to that line somehow. Deleting it removed the vandalism, and restoring the line didn't bring back the vandalism. It appears that this was done by somebody extremely skilled... Shanes only saw it AFTER he logged out, and he said he was too busy on the homefront to figure it out. Of course, there's nothing wrong with THAT.--Chanting Fox 19:48, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Simply a guess... I couldn't find anything wrong with the history, and the only thing that appeared strange was that single line... I didn't know that it had a legitimate purpose, so that seemed like the logical place to start. I managed to check out the header, and everything seemed fine there. I definitely started to suspect something when you and Shanes couldn't seem to see the vandalism... --Chanting Fox 19:53, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • That makes things even stranger... I'm using a Mac and using Safari for my browser... Maybe there was some sort of hidden program attached to the TOC line or something... It didn't show up for me when I tried the shortcut to the noticeboard. The fact is that I've got no idea HOW the vandal managed to do this... I just know that the vandal managed to do it, and that I managed to find a way to take care of the damage. My guess is that as far as we're concerned, the investigation is at a dead end. This doesn't appear to have been anywhere near to simple vandalism... which is a good thing since it means that not many people will be able to pull the same stunt. --Chanting Fox 19:58, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

thanks

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. Jtkiefer 05:52, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

Blame Someone Else Day

[edit]

Do you have any external links available concerning this holiday? I'd like to read more, since I've never heard of such a holiday. Also, it would help to convince me that it exists. :)

Actually, I'm glad you asked about that. I stumbled onto the page and noticed that it was an orphan, and linked it in the only place I could think of. I was really sort of hoping someone would challenge it, because I've never heard of this "holiday," either. Google had a lot of links, but I still don't have any idea about the encyclopediocity (good word, eh?) of the article. Joyous 22:24, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
How exactly do you make your reply appear on both of our talk pages? Did you just post it twice? (I just learned the tilde-tilde-tilde-tilde name-and-time-stamp trick, so I'm a little wet around the edges on Talk page editing.) I propose VfDing the orphan article and setting up a "rumored holidays" section on Holidays. I personally don't feel I've been... editful enough on Wikipedia to go around VfDing things myself yet. You must have noticed my love of neologisms, but I think I'd vote for encyclopedeity. ^_^ Gemini6Ice 04:04, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
