It started of with the jedi but then the some of the jedi got disillusioned with the jedi rules so that led to 'Dark Jedi'. They went to a planet called Koroban were there was a spieces called the sith the dark jedi had a war with these creatures and won so then they named them selves the sith lords. Eventually,they went back to the planet of Corosaunt and raded the jedi temple which led to the hundred year galactic war. After that the jedi came victories they worked on strengthining there order to make sure that would never happen again but the sith were one step a head. They made a sith empire with troopers and force users there numbers were 10x larger than the jedi's. Darth maligius was one of the most supererea sith of its era.
