Karate High School is a five person band from San Francisco, California. On March 21, 2006 they released their debut album Arcade Rock. Karate High School states that they take inspiration from the music in video games. According to the band, "Arcade Rock" is more than the name of their album - it's also a term that describes their style.[1]

Style

[edit]

The style of Karate High School uses the overlay of screaming and singing that is characteristic of post-hardcore. To distinguish themselves from the crowd KHS uses synthesizers liberally. This gives the songs more of a videogame soundtrack feel. This style is similar to HORSE the band and 8 Bit Weapon. This style is also refered to as Nintendocore at times.

Discography

[edit]

They put out one EP in 1999 that had five songs. 3 of these songs (Extra Extra, Sweep the Leg, and 110%) were rewritten for thier major label debut "Arcade Rock" that was released in early 2006.

Accomplishments

[edit]

In October of 2006 Karate High School won the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands contest. [2]
