Marie Leguizamo (born November 6, 1981, in The Bronx, New York) is an American television producer, showrunner, and general manager of Colombian descent. She is the sister of actor John Leguizamo.

Biography

Marie Leguizamo is an Emmy-nominated producer with two decades of experience in unscripted television. Her vision and discipline have led her to achieve record audience numbers. She has received two nominations from the International Emmy Awards for her work on La Voz Kids (U.S.) (2013 - 2016) and was also nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for LOL: Last One Laughing (MX)[1].

Leguizamo has closely worked with Endemol Shine Boomdog for the past decade, producing numerous top-tier series under their banner. She has served as showrunner and executive producer for successful Spanish-language series such as La Voz Kids for Telemundo, as well as Pequeños Gigantes USA and Mira quién baila for Univision.

Additionally, she has produced various competition and performance-centered programs, including two seasons of La gran sorpresa, Nuestra Belleza Latina, ¡Viva el sueño!, Premios Juventud, El Juego de Oro, and Billboard All Access.

Banijay Mexico & US Hispanic

In 2021, as part of the Banijay Group, the production company Banijay Mexico & US Hispanic was founded with the aim of developing and producing original content in both English and Spanish for broadcast television, cable, and streaming in the Hispanic markets of Mexico and the United States.[2]

Marie was named General Manager and oversees the studio based in Mexico City and Los Angeles.[3] By 2023, in line with Marie's vision for female empowerment, the company had achieved 80% female representation.

Banijay Mexico & U.S. Hispanic has established a production center in Mexico City, where it currently produces the successful comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing (MX), LOL: Last One Laughing Argentina, and LOL: Last One Laughing Colombia for Prime Video.

Under her leadership, the company produced its first original show, Jalas o te Rajas, featuring El Escorpión Dorado and Facundo (actor) for the Prime Video platform in 2022.[4]

In 2023, she served as showrunner and executive producer for the formats of Temptation Island in Mexico, Argentina/Chile, and Brazil.[5]

Since 2023, Leguizamo has been the ambassador in Mexico and Latin America for the Banijay Launch program, which aims to empower and support the next generation of content creators globally. The initiative seeks to address gender inequity by providing women worldwide with training on project development from concept to sale.[6]

In 2024, Leguizamo was included in the list of 100 Latina Powerhouse by Hola magazine, an annual initiative that celebrates the most influential, empowered, and inspiring Latinas. The recognition was awarded for her contributions to the Latin American audiovisual industry.[7]
