The name may seem pompous and arrogant, but the nom de plume actually came about strictly by accident. Once upon a time, circa 1988, at a Clock Restaurant on U.S.1 in Vero Beach, FL (I believe it's now a Chinese restaurant) a hostess had trouble pronouncing "Gerow" and announced that "Guru, party of three. Your table is ready." Since the party of three were three High School seniors, the misnomer stuck. "jonny" is often all lower case because often, Jonny refused to capitalize his own name. GURU is all caps because there was a time when Jonny just went by "GURU" on BBS's where everything was typed in all caps.

When it comes to computers, it all started with a Heathkit Z80 and a book on how to do Z80 assembly code. Jonny would still be writing his own BBS software and peddling Belkin cables at the local CompUSA if it weren't for SuperSix giving Jonny a job at a small computer shop in Tampa, FL in 1996.

Since then, Jon has had many jobs in the industry, having worked for retailers, etailers, tier 1 distributors and even manufacturers. In late 2000, Jon started the PC hardware blog "jonnyGURU.com" which, by 2005, became a computer hardware review site specializing mainly on computer power supplies. Jonny currently works as director of PSU R&D at Corsair Components. Due to conflict of interest, he no longer writes or admins for the jonnyGURU.com website, but he is a permanent fixture in the forums.
