Hello! My name is Jonathan Lesser. I was born in England and emigrated to Israel when I was 16. As a musician I work with many different branches of the musical spectrum but my specialist field is the voice. This includes work with choirs, chamber groups, voice training and singing in the classroom. After my bachelor degree in musicology I continued in the Tel Aviv Academy specialising in choral and orchestral conducting and in composition. In Germany I went on to study the development of the boy's voice, before, during and after the break or the "stimmbruch". I am the coordinator of the music department at the Hebrew University High School in Jerusalem. I also enjoy conducting and singing in a small male vocal ensemble where we work mainly on music from the Renaissance, in addition to pieces which rarely get to be performed, some of them contemporary. My other interests and hobbies include History, roaming around the UK on foot, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and mythology in general. My interest in History focuses on the connection between society and religion, and music. This parallel development fascinates me because through its mutual interdependence it sheds so much light on the hows and whys of the evolution of music. In addition, this particular historical perception portrays our society as being constantly aware and sensitive to its musical, artistic and spiritual surroundings. I'd love to hear your views on the subject as well as any questions you might have. And of course anything you might have to enlighten me with regarding music in general, especially regarding repertoire. Thanks, Jonathan.
