Grey Mountain (known officially as Canyon Mountain) is located southwest of the Riverdale subdivision in Whitehorse, Yukon. It is located at 60° 41' N; 134° 54' W[1], with a summit elevation of 1494 m[2].
There is a communications tower near the top of Grey Mountain, accessable via Grey Mountain Road. Other sites accessed along Grey Mountain Road include:
- Grey Mountain Cemetery
- Whitehorse Shooting Range
- Whitehorse Biatholon Club
- Several look out points that look out onto the city and across the river valley to the bluffs where the airport is located.
The upper section of Grey Mountain Road is unmaintained during the winter months[4] and the communications tower is not accessible. However, the lower sites listed above are normally still accessible.
Canyon Mountain is also the host of a myriad of trails. The trails are maintained by the City of Whitehorse [5]
History
[edit]Include some history of the mountain here. Check on Klondike by Pierre Berton.
Trail System
[edit]Include some general discussion about the trail system. Multi-use trails, used mostly for hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing. Research approximate length of trails in the area? Probably no stats on this, check the CoW website.
