Limiting the TOC's depth
[edit]By default, the TOC includes all the headings in the page, whatever their level. When an article or project page has a very large number of subsections, it may be appropriate to hide lower-level subsections from the TOC. You can specify a limit for the lowest-level section that should be displayed using {{TOC limit|n}}
, where n
is the number of =
signs that are used on each side of the lowest-level section header that should be displayed (e.g. 3
to show ===sub-sections===
but hide ====sub-sub-sections====
). The limit=n
parameter can also be given to {{TOC left}}
or {{TOC right}}
the same way.

When using a flatlist, should the first entry be capitalized. I don't think it should, unless Wiki is going to agree that the first entry carries more importance than the rest, which should never be capitalized unless they start with a proper noun, e.g. in the infobox of Paul McCartney, we have Singer-songwriter while the other occupations are not capitalized. In other articles the distinction may not be so clear. In Elton John we have, in the occupation field
- Musician
- singer-songwriter
- composer
while in the instrument field we have
- Vocals
- piano
Does that mean that "musician" is more important than the other occupations, or that "vocals" is a more important instrument than "piano", or are "Musician" and "Vocals" just the start of sentences? Jodosma (talk) 18:11, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

- Deleting named references
If text containing a named reference is deleted along with its definition, care should be taken to ensure no "widows" are created, i.e. other occurrences of the deleted reference elsewhere in the article that now have no definition; this results in a cite error. Either all appearances of the reference should be removed, or the definition should be moved to one of the remaining instances. The article should be checked after editing to ensure that no cite error has been created.
- Deleting list-defined references
Similarly, if text containing a list-defined reference is removed, which only has one occurrence in the main article content, the definition should also be removed otherwise a cite error will be created. Again, the article should be checked for cite errors after editing.

Incorrect list defined reference removals
[edit]Hi! I hope you're enjoying Wikipedia. I noticed your edits on Article name where you removed several refs with some text. This has resulted in three cite errors on that page as you can see at the bottom of the article. This has occurred because they were list-defined references. If you remove a reference which is list-defined (and therefore has a name) and this is the only occurrence of that reference then please make sure that you go to the reflist and remove the definition. This will avoid the creation of a cite error. Incidentally those cite errors are still there as I write.
