Internships Juror in the 2006 New York County District Attorney’s office Mock Trial Program – Saturday June 17, 2006 I participated as a juror in the Mock trial that the New York District Attorney’s office holds each year. I learned about how criminal cases are held, processed, and argued by lawyers. As well as the role that a juror has in the process.

Internship at Metropolitan Hospital - New York Medical College’s MET PALS (Preparation for Achievement in the Life Sciences) program – Summer 2006 (120+ hrs) I had hands on experience in wards where I assisted, learned from, and observed healthcare professionals. I participated in lectures from various people within the healthcare system who explained how they obtained their jobs, and what they their responsibilities are. I learned how to take vital signs, how to take care of patients, and basic life support certification as well. We took a trip to the Bodies Exhibit with medical doctors and students as our tour guides who taught us about human anatomy. As a result of this program I want to become a Physician or Physician’s Assistant.

Qualifications

Basic Life Support CPR Certified (Summer 2006) I received CPR certification from an American Heart Association course. AED Operation I learned how to properly operate an AED machine.

Activities

JP Morgan Lincoln Douglas Debates (10th, 11th , & 12th) I was the first affirmative speaker, and an active participant in the early bird tournament both years. I also participated in practice debates.

Video/Film making club (10th , 11th , & 12th) I helped start this club in 10th grade, as my school had all the proper equipment for film production, although no venue to actually use it. In 10th grade I filmed and edited a short film. In 11th I continued the work I was doing in Videography class by filming, editing, and acting in several shorts.

Criminology Club (12th) We go through different criminal cases. We watch a show about what occurred during a particular case, and then we discuss what occurred, as well as what could have happened differently. We expect to have guest speakers soon.

Apple School Night (10th & 11th) I participated in Apple School night several times, where I helped represent the school, by showing different creations that were made using Apple technology. This includes Videos that were made by the Videography class and club that I was in.

Advanced Videography (11th) I filmed a modified production of “The Taming of the Shrew” by William Shakespeare. I also edited and created some sort videos, including an interview series I made on the 1960’s.

Video Yearbook (11th & 12th) I taught fellow video yearbook participants how to edit with FinalCut. I also helped film various school events including the prom.

Peace Corps (11th) We planned fundraisers to help various projects around the world.

New York Junior Tennis League (9th and 10th) I took lessons, practiced, and played in several tournaments.

Law Team (10th) We worked on a court case pertaining to the constitutionality of displaying religious symbols in a public school. I helped to develop arguments for the side that thought that the display of religious symbols would be unconstitutional. As well as helping people with their speeches, and learning about the court system on a local, state, and national level.

Newspaper (10th) I helped in the production of Eleanor Roosevelt’s first newspaper.

Film (viewing) club (10th) We watched and reflected upon various influential films from around the world that were centered upon very important issues concerning our nation and other nations within the world.

Pottery (10th) We prepared the clay, formed it, painted it, and fired it into various pieces of art.

Digital photography (10th) I took pictures with a digital camera, and edited them with Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks along with other various programs.

Technology Club (10th) I helped manage the technology within the school. Which included inventory, maintenance (both mechanical and internal), we also helped to create parts of the school’s website.

Drama Club (9th) We acted out different plays and skits, including a parody on the school that was presented to the school.

Drama Production (9th) I played the role of the priest in the play entitled “Puss In Boots”.

French Club (9th) We Practiced Speaking French and watched various French movies.

Tutor/Tutee I was both a tutor and tutee within this program.

Basketball (9th) We played basketball during the morning a few mornings each week. We also played a game at the end of the season.

Mouse Squad (9th) We started planning what we would do with the school’s website.

Math Club (9th) We worked out different math problems together that were very challenging.

Handball Club (9th) I learned the basics of playing handball.

Volunteer Experience

(12th grade) Volunteer at Metropolitan hospital -I assisted the nurses and doctors by taking care of and transporting patients.

Tutoring -Videography

(11th grade) Organization -Office work with papers -Shelving books in the library. Help Desk at Eleanor Roosevelt High School - Maintaining computers, wires, and assorted hardware within the school.

Tutoring -Math, History, Videography

NY CARES - I taught Kids how to cook at the Virtual Y. - I taught people how to use computers at Lenox Hill. - I worked with the elderly at a nursing home. (I helped with organizing games and activities. Set up decorations. I also transported patients to and from the activity room.).

Helping an elderly woman - Making sure she had proper food - Maintaining her apartment - Companionship

(10th grade) American Heart Association Jump for heart - I raised money, and participated in the event

Tutoring - Chemistry, History

(9th grade) Tutoring - Biology and Flute, to various students who improved their knowledge and test scores dramatically as a result of the help I was giving them.

Lab Organization - I helped the Biology teacher organize and maintain various lab instruments, for laboratory experiments
