The Village of Yabi in Cabinda
Yabi is a very cheerful village in the province of Cabinda. People there survive by farming many things ranging from oranges, cassava bread, cassava leaves and so much more. Some of the people are hunters. They go to their farming fields by tractors. They are mainly labor intensive. They hunt lions, antilopes, wild rabbits, wild birds and so much more. They also keep livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats, swines. You can find small markets or tuck shop in there. The people there are cheerful dancers. They have this dance called Kintueni whereby ladies tie piece of cloth around their waist and they go on dancing by moving their waist. You find a Church called Igreja Tocoista. Members from the church dress in white garments. Women are not allowed to plait their hair, nor wear jewelry. You also find a school that goes up to grade 5. From there, learners must travel to near towns to continue with their education. There is no clinic, but people there resort to the traditional healers who offers traditional herbs. Few kilometers before you reach the village, you will find a prison called Yabi Prison. Life goes on there without electricity. In order to generate electricity, people buy power generators from near towns and bring them home in order to have some power at home. The most appreciated dishes there are peanut sauces based dishes. They produce their own flour called Farinha Musseque and their own palm oil. It is headed by Chief Caxoco IV, son of Chief Caxoco III. and tiring. Therefore, it is the best if in a family, the father works and the mother take care of her family.
