User:Jnestorius/Ussher family
Appearance
The Ussher or Usher family was an Anglo-Irish family prominent from the 15th to 19th centuries, originally as merchants and municipal officials in Dublin. Family tradition traces their origin to a John Nevil, supposed to be of the Nevilles of Northern England and to have been Usher of Prince John of England's Court as Lord of Ireland;[1] the family also saw a connection with the Yorkshire Usher family recorded from the 14th century. The Constable of Dublin Castle in 1302 was "John le Ussher", who may have been a relative.[2] The earliest definite ancestor of the later Usshers was Arland Ussher, who was Mayor of Dublin in 1469.
