Stearns Road Bridge is a bridge carrying traffic over the Fox River in South Elgin. Officially opening to traffic on December 16, 2010, the $165 million project was the largest infrastructure project in Kane County[1]. It is expected to alleviate congestion on other crossings of the river, such as North Avenue (Rt 64) in St. Charles and Rt 20 in Elgin. The project, which took nearly 20 years from when the first studies of finding a location of the crossing began, was spearheaded by then Congressman Dennis Hastert[2]. Construction began in June 2009 and when finished included a 4 lane highway extending from Randall Road and heading east across the river and ending at the existing Stearns Road at the Kane-DuPage County line.
