John J. Powers is an American actor, comedian, writer, and Emmy Award Winner [1] best known for his raw form of comedy that demands audience involvement. John is currently recording a new comedy CD. He was born September 1st, 1982 in Amityville, NY. John J. Powers attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY where he earned a Bachelor's degree in TV/Radio/Film Communications. He performed comedy and parody songs at open mics and coffee houses.
John began his comedy career in Poughkeepsie, NY playing to crowds from the sixties and seventies. He performed at NY Comedy Club, Caroline's on Broadway, Standup NY, Comix, Comic Strip Live, and Broadway Comedy Club, to name a few. He went on to several acting jobs including playing a photo double for Bobby Cannavale on "Cupid," and next played on Angelina Jolie's "Salt," in the role of a naval officer.
John J. Powers was featured in several Maury Povich re-enactments: Portrayed "Peeping Tom," "Neighbor with Rake," and, "Boyfriend who Burned Girlfriend's House Down." He is most widely known for his performance in several musicals and theatrical productions including: Willy Wonka (Wonka), Inherit the Wind (E.K. Hornbeck) and Fiddler on the Roof (Fyedka). A recent endeavor was a monthly web series called "The Hand Off" where two hand puppets take on many of society's ailments in a manor of comic relief. [2]
