Mercedes is a fictional character in the series Ghetto Warrior by J.K. Black.

Mercedes appear in the storyline after the Underworld Saga. Kojo's old girlfriend, Syleena, was killed in a fight against the Vampire Queen and Kojo grieved. Mercedes was Syleena's best friend who also had a thing for Kojo and even tried to get with him. Kojo ignored her advances and instead grew closer to Ciara, of all people. Mercedes was infuriated and she sought a way to break Kojo and Ciara up for good.

Story

Mercedes is a witch who has the potential to become extremely powerful. She's a teenager who attends the same school as Kojo and his friends.

Shortly after discovering her powers, Mercedes took steps to break up Kojo and Ciara. By using a special potion, Mercedes made Kojo fall in love with her causing him to become her loyal servant. Ciara discovered her plans and moved to stop her. Mercedes responded by using her powers to turn Mic, Hood, Lil'D and Deluxe into her slaves as well and sent them to stop Ciara. When Ciara beat them, Mercedes turned Kojo against Ciara, forcing the two to fight. In the end, Ciara becomes trapped in a burning building caused by Mercedes. Seeing Ciara in grave danger, Kojo snaps out of the spell and risks his life to save Ciara, which brings them closer together. After that, Mercedes disappears.

Mercedes later reappears in the storyline, involved in a plot with a demon to destroy Kojo. Together, they attacked a Cupid who at the time had been helping Michelle. The demon killed the cupid and stole its powers with the help of Mercedes. To hold up his end of the bargain, the demon used his new powers to cause Kojo and Ciara to hate each other. After that, Mercedes appeared and manipulated the hate-driven Kojo. She gains his trust by leading Kojo to the demon who has been causing trouble - the very one she has been working with! Kojo vanquishes the demon with ease. Fortunately, Michelle breaks the spell by exposing Mercedes. Mercedes flees before she could be killed.

Now sick of Ciara, Mercedes uses an elaborate plan to steal the Archive. She used its spells to steal Ciara's powers and to ultimately kill her. Now with her powers, along with those she stole from Ciara and the Archive itself, Mercedes was virtually unstoppable and possessed enough power to destroy just about everything. She could've done just that, but had one demand; that Kojo will marry her, bounding himself to her forever. To save himself and his loved ones, Kojo surrendered himself to Mercedes. In a special ritual, Kojo married Mercedes and he became "her's forever." Things seemed hopeless, until Kojo's plan was realized. Because of the ritual, Kojo's powers transferred to Mercedes. What she didn't know, however, that the spell worked both ways. Kojo used Mercedes' powers against her and got to the archive. He then used it to turn back time and saved Ciara. After that, Kojo seemingly killed Mercedes.

The last time Mercedes is seen is when she comes to Kane for assistance.

Personality

Mercedes has the personality of a teenage girl from a privileged background. Her astrological sign is Leo which manifests itself into a grandiose, loud and attention-demanding personality. She is spoiled, bratty, snobby and elitist often picking on those she consider "inferior" in her school. A materialist, she is used to getting whatever she wants, when she wants it, and has developed covetous and envious tendencies when it comes to not obtaining what she desires. Initially, Mercedes is a quiet friend of Syleena who develops an interest in Kojo that eventually turns into a dangerous obsession which she mistakenly considers "love". This obsession is fueled by the pain of Kojo's rejection and her jealousy of Ciara. As the series progresses, Mercedes transform from a snobbish bully to a psychologically unstable character who has access to powers that makes her dangerous to everyone around her. Mercedes has also shown herself to be conniving, manipulative and a double-crosser.

During his brief marriage to her, Kojo gained a better understanding of who she is and attempted to help her. However, the opportunity for rehabilitation was ruined by the events that later transpired in the story. Ciara also once attempted to help Mercedes by invoking her higher self within her, giving her the opportunity to make the right decisions. This spell pitted Mercedes' higher self against her lower self. Just when it seemed that Mercedes was going to choose the higher, she succumbed to the lower, causing her to become more psychotic and dangerous than ever. Since then, Mercedes had an intense hatred for Ciara which ultimately lead her to killing her. Kojo, feeling that Mercedes' cannot be rehabilitated, decided to kill her. However, he fails in his attempt.

Powers

Mercedes' key ability is to "hex" her enemies, that is, to turn the odds against her opponents and in her favor. Someone once summed it up as this "anything that could go wrong will go wrong when she is around." Examples include buildings or tunnels collapsing at the "wrong time" or turning someone else's powers or abilities against them. Ciara identified her ability as the capacity to perceive the underlying structure, identify its stresses and strains and heighten those strains to the point where "disasters" happen.

Her other abilities include the capacity to temporarily freeze time, telekinesis and spell-casting.

Appearance

Mercedes is a very attractive girl whose likeness resembles Mya. She has high cheekbones, angular features and frizzy hair. She is typically fashionable and wears high-quality designer clothes.
