Bikali College (Assamese: বিকালী মহবিদ্যালয়) is an institution for higher education located at Dhupdhara, Assam, a Northeastern state of India.

[edit]Bikali College (Assamese: বিকালী মহবিদ্যালয়) is a seat of higher education located in Goalpara district of western Assam. The college was established on 14th April 1982 by the rural masses of 52 numbers of villages under ‘Bikali Mauza Unnayan Samiti’ ( a socio-economic and cultural organisation). The college has Arts, Commerce and Science streams. At present, it has also Post Graduate regular course in Assamese under Gauhati University. The college has also semester examination centre for this P.G. course.
History
[edit]Bikali College is named after “Bikali Mauza”, which is a part of historical ‘Habraghat Pargana.’ The college is located under Dhupdhara part II at a distance of 0.75 km from the small market township Dhupdhara and NH 37. The pang of establishing the college was shouldered by the villagers and first meeting was held on 30th November 1974 under the presidentship of late Upendra Naryan Sarania wherein Anandi bala Rabha , the then MLA was nominated as president and Ismail Ali as Vice- president. A number of pioneering personalities like Upendra Narayan Sarania, Jogeswar Kalita, Nabin Roy Choudhury, Deba kanta Medhi, Gopal Hazowary, Mahimuddin Ahmed, Sahar Ali, Baijaram Hajowary, Annada Hazarika, Praneswar Misra, Ismail Ali, Karuna Kanta Rabha etc. shouldered the trouble to initiate developmental works of college management. Mr. Dewan Ram Boro, Professor, Cotton College joined as the first full-fledged Principal on 13. 10.1982. A number of eminent administrators and academicians like Mr. Dewan Ram Boro, former Secretary, A .H.S.E. Council, Dr. Brojendra Nath Roy Choudhury, former Registrar, IIT, Guwahati served the college as Principal. Besides, Mr. Madan Deka (IAS cadre) served the college as faculty member. The college was brought under deficit grant- in- aid system in 1992. As per suggestion and recommendation of the first NAAC peer team visit in 2004, Commerce stream was started and at present the stream is full-fledged with Major courses in Accountancy, Finance and Management attracting students from neighboring areas and even from far flung places like West Garo Hills in Meghalaya. Of late, the college has also initiated Science education in + 2 level as there is emerging need for such education in the locality.
Accreditation
[edit]The college has been accredited for second cycle by NAAC in 2010 and was awarded ‘B’ grade.
Library
[edit]The college library is placed in ground floor for easy access of students. It is endowed with about 19000 of books of all subjects comprising of text books and reference books. The library also prescribes to more than 30 numbers of national, international and regional journals. It is maintained through computer based ‘Soul’ software 2.0(INFLIBNET). The library has OPEN as well as OPAC facility. It has also NLIST (INFLIBNET). Among the other facilities, the library has Barcode system, internet, wi fi, reprography, book bank for economically weaker sections of students, CAS (Current Awareness Service), Local Writers collections, etc. It is also having a Digital library section. [edit]Bikali College has a number of academic centres such as Gandhian Study Centre, Ambedkar Study Centre, Tribal Study Centre, Folklore Study Centre and Human Rights Study Centre.

[edit]The college along with the regular programmes under Gauhati University and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, has also a few academic facilities, such as IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning, under G.U., KKSHOU (Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University.)

[edit]Bikali College caters to students pursuing the following qualifications :
HSSLC
[edit]Study for the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate is possible in the Arts and Science streams. This qualification is awarded upon successful completion of two years of study followed by relevant examinations under the state board Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council.
Bachelors
[edit]Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science graduate degrees are offered. This degree is awarded upon successful completion of three years of study followed by relevant examinations under Gauhati College State University.
Masters
[edit]Master of Arts in Assamese is offered. This degree is awarded upon successful completion of two years of study followed by relevant examinations under Gauhati University.
Hostel facilities
[edit]The college has hostel facilities for both girls and boys. Girl hostel has a capacity of 80 seats.
