Tata Projects Limited (TPL) is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction company of the Tata Group in India. Established in the year 1979 by the late JRD Tata. The company has expertise in executing large and complex industrial infrastructure projects in india & abroad.Tata Projects has undergone an organization restructuring since 2014, where in it operates through 4 Strategic Business Units mainly - Industrial Infrastructure, Urban Infrastructure, Quality Services and Utility Services .
Since Inception the ompany has built many industrial projects, such as India's largest Public sector 1600 MW Super Critical Thermal Power Project , first 800 kV HVDC Transmission line and the one of the largest Blast furnace for SAIL India , and is in the process of building an even larger Blast furnace in India. It has commenced work on the Dedicated Freight Corridor project , an ambitious programme of the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, which is sanctioned by the World Bank. The project involves building two corridors - Eastern & Western, a key infrastructure project that will segregate the passenger network from the freight network and will also increase the speed of freight trains upto 100 Kilometers per hour. Tata Projects is currently building the 347 Km long Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.
Tata Projects has over 2,700 employees spread across three Regional Offices in India, 86 project locations, 15 Regional Inspection Offices and registered overseas offices in – Middle East, Kenya, South Africa and China..

[edit]Industrial Infrastructure
[edit]Industrial infrastructure is the core business of Tata Projects. It addresses the following segments :-
- Power Generation- The Business unit provides customized turnkey solutions for thermal power plants ( coal and gas based ).
- Transmission - It is involved building HV transmission lines across all voltage levels including GIS-sub-stations . The company has its own transmission tower manufacturing unit at Nagpur.
- Railways – The Business unit is proficient in executing railway electrification; signalling & telecommunications works, bridges earthwork and other civil works for the railway sector in India.[1]
- Metals and Minerals – It provides end to end customised solutions for `Ferrous’ and `Non Ferrous’ industries like steel, iron ore etc. The Business unit has expertise in executing blast furnaces, ore beneficiation & pelletization plants.
- Construction BU – The Business unit has the comprehensive capability to address complex construction projects. It has experience in executing tall structures and projects in challenging terrain leveraging expertise in civil construction, mechanical & electrical engineering.Construction Service BU provides end to end industrial and municipal water treatment solutions. It has expertise in filtration, desalination and effluent treatment. The Business unit also constructs water pipelines and distribution systems
- Oil & Gas – It offers solutions in mid and downstream projects including refinery expansion, tank farms and terminals, onshore field development and process plants.
Urban Infrastructure
[edit]Urbanization is set to rapidly transform India. To contribute to growing demad of Soical Infrastructure, Tata Projects has ventured in this business sector. The SBU addresses the following segments :-
- Buildings & Airports - The SBU undertakes execution of Airports, Civil /Commercial buildings.
- Urban Transport & Hydro Projects - It builds Metro systems, Bridges & Flyovers, Tunnels and Hydro Projects/ Dams.[2]
Recently in 2015 , the company announced a strategic partnership with leading global construction company Brookfield Multiplex from Australia to deliver a range of commercial & retail, residential, healthcare, and tourism & leisure projects across India.
Quality Services
[edit]The SBU Provides comprehensive inspection, certification and training services across all infrastructure sectors including Power, Hydrocarbons, and Metals & Minerals. It has experience in serving over 1,000 clients spread across the world. The SBU has worked in 40 countries globally and has also ventured out in ‘Operation & Maintenance’ projects in its domain.
Utility Services
[edit]This SBU address drinking water needs of rural communities in India. It manufactures high quality Reverse osmosis & Ultrafiltration water purification plants, in capacities of 200 to 10,000 litres per hour. The company has the technology and expertise to treat fluoride & arsenic contaminated water to make it fit for drinking. The plants are available in mobile and solar variants for community and commercial installations.
