Welcome...
[edit]...to my user page. My name is Jim and I'm a retired university administrator living in San Jose, California. I'm originally from central New York and completed my graduate work at the Ohio State University. My university experience is primarily in the areas of counseling and student activities. However, I've also worked as a researcher and software trainer.
Wikitrivia
[edit]After retirement I upgraded my entire home computer system and, while surfing the web, discovered Wikipedia during the summer of 2008. After spending quite a bit of time in the Wikipedia namespace, I created an account on October 24, 2008.
I began by correcting spelling and other typographical errors in articles. I also revised the Wikipedia Lists of Common Misspellings. While the pages don't seem to be used that often, it was a great way to learn about Wikipedia. And I enjoy working in the background to improve Wikipedia.
At the end of October I discovered the Recent Changes pages and started reviewing them on a daily basis as well. I've used the rollback feature to assist in reverting vandalism and sometimes patrol new pages. In 2011 I started editing pages tagged as needing sections (about 50 so far) and continued reverting vandalism using Twinkle.
Interests
[edit]I have interests in mystery writers and their novels, movies and television shows, actors and actresses, and science fiction. I anticipated that it would take me several months before I made a contribution in these areas, but created my first new article on November 10, 2008, with the second soon after. These articles 'fill in the blanks' for shows that are missing in Wikipedia. I've also been adding infoboxes to television show articles that are missing them and tagging the talk pages with the WikiProject Television template.
