Blocking Pornography

The Block (Internet) of Pornography has become stronger over the years. In 2013, Google installed a program that blocked close to 100,000 search engines related to child pornography. It gives a warning to Google when other search engines are searching up results related to child pornography. It notifies viewers that there could be illegal content in the browser they are opening and it provides advice on where to seek help. The program first launched in the United Kingdom and then launched to other countries. Europe has become really strict with the decision of blocking images of child pornography from the Internet. The European Parliament does not only want to block images of child pornography, but they have decided to remove them. India has blocked 857 pornography websites after a decision from the Supreme Court this year. The pornography websites were found by an anti-pornography activist and the Indian government ordered the websites to be blocked right away. There were a lot of commotion and complaints over the pornography websites being blocked without notice. A government official testified that the ban is temporary until the government finds a way to block child pornography websites. However, the public soon found out that the claim wasn't the exact truth, so the pornography websites were quickly unblocked by the government. President Barack Obama announced the ban of pornography in the United States. If people get caught watching, producing, purchasing or selling pornography, they can get a punishment for up to 30 years in jail, depending on how big the crime is. In 2013, Canada wanted to follow the British plan for blocking pornography on the internet. Canadians wouldn't have access to pornography websites unless they opt-in with their internet providers. However, internet providers haven't really looked into the idea to have a discussion or make a decision on the topic yet. Government officials are still looking over the idea with internet providers to make a final decision on the topic.

There are ten free tools that can help to filter and block porn on the internet. The first one is called PicBlock. It detects keywords and images to recognize if the website has pornography in it. The second one is called BlockSmart. It blocks inappropriate websites and people need to sign in to add it to their allowed list. The third one is called Blue Coat K9 Web Protection. It scans every URL that people go on, and if it has inappropriate content, it will ask for a password. The fourth one is called Microsoft Family Safety. It shows when a page is blocked with an option to email a request and ask in person. The fifth one is called Qustodio. It doesn't only filter inappropriate websites but it also allows parents to monitor what their children are doing online. The sixth one is called Kurupira WebFilter. It blocks inappropriate websites and also instant messaging from Facebook, Twitter and other social networking websites. The seventh one is called netCheckPost. It requires a master password when people sign up and will ask for the password for pornography websites. The eighth one is called WebPatrol. It shows a white blank page for pornography websites and viewers will know that it's inappropriate. The ninth one is called Drainware Parental Control. It allows people to block the websites they want. The last one is called Stop P-O-R-N. This one stops web browsers when it detects that blocked websites are being loaded to a browser.

Facebook Blocking

Blocking on Facebook has recently become frequent. People don't get notifications that they have been blocked, but there are other ways to find out. One way is if people have history with the person they have been blocked by. They will be completely gone from the Facebook profile. Friend's list, messages, wall posts, likes, tags, shared links and comments on photos or videos will all disappear from the person. Another way is if a boyfriend or girlfriend was listed on a relationship status, they will not be on it anymore. If the person who's been blocked has a mutual friend with the blocker, their comments will show on photos and videos of the mutual friend, but their names will be highlighted in black and no profile pictures will be available. There are two ways people can be blocked on Facebook. The first way is to go on the person's profile page, click the button with the three dots on the right side of their profile, and then select "block" at the bottom. Another way is to click "account" on the right side of your Facebook page, select "privacy settings," go to "block lists" at the bottom of the page and then click "edit your lists," click "block users" and add the name of the person you'd like to block, then click "block."

Blocking on Facebook can be necessary when someone is being bullied, stalked, constant negativity, serious offense and a lot of profanity. Just "unfriending" is not always enough because the profile isn't completely locked up until the block is added. Bullying consists of harassing and threatening messages about certain posts. Stalking consists of someone who's always on your back following your every move such as constantly commenting on all Facebook posts and sending messages all the time. Constant negativity is when someone always posts negative stuff to bring other people down. Serious offense is when someone does something wrong with a person like stealing from them, attacking them verbally or physically, hacking their account and cheating them. Lastly, a lot of profanity is when a person's Facebook friend may post stuff to their wall that the person doesn't generally mind but their other friends or co-workers might. They post stuff that could make the person look bad or ruin their reputation. These are some of the signs that indicate when someone should be blocked on Facebook.
