Food desert

Hi there. I am evaluating this article for a class that I am currently in. There were a couple things that I thought took away from the point of the article. For example, “This has health and diet implications in individuals living in these areas where nutritious food is not readily available, though some of these claims such as linking food deserts with obesity in children are disputed” is a sentence within the first paragraph of the article and I believe that refining this sentence and making it two would help the reader understand the article more easily. Besides a few sentences that are a little distracting, I think the article is incredibly well-written and thorough in defining and expanding on what a ‘food desert’. The article also has a lot of citations that help make ensure that the point in the article are robust and well-supported.

There is a fairly large section in the article about rural food deserts that outline the different factors and populations that affect the food deserts specifically in smaller populations. I think it would be incredibly beneficial to have a section about food deserts in an urban landscape. As socioeconomic status families move into suburban areas, minorities are often left without grocery store options because, in order to increase sales and save brand images, the store leave with the people who have more money. I think this addition would add to the knowledge base of this Wikipedia page due to the fact that as our society progresses this will be a problem that cities face more and more often.

Norco

Hi there. I am evaluating this article for a class that I am currently in. I noticed that there is a section for 20th century history but there is currently not one for 21st century history that works to document the conflict between Shell Oil and the residents of Norco. This section could work towards laying out the arguments of both sides for relocation of Norco as well as whether or not Shell has responsibility to do so. I think this article lacks in its luster for the conflict that is highly generalizable to other towns surround oil refineries and other chemical producing facilities.

Another thing that I noticed was that there was not mention of the fact that Norco is fairly racially divided into sub-communities-- 'Diamond' is a part of Norco that spans about four blocks and it is 100% African American. It would be beneficial and interesting to talk about the differences between Diamond and the rest of Norco which is almost completely Caucasian. These socially and psychically separate communities view and experience the presence of Shell differently which adds to the debate surrounding this town.

Overall, This article was incredibly informative about the history and demographics in a way that was easy to read and to understand which adds to it effectivenes overall but I feel like diving deeper into the conflict that was experienced by this town would be helpful to those searching for this town on Wikipedia
