- . Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg
Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg was born in Saxony on 10th July 1682. He had a natural ability for music in his early age. He studied at the University of Halle. While he was studying the King Denmark requested for missionary work. In 1706 Ziegenbalg and Heinrich Pluestshau was sent as first Protestant missionaries to India. They arrived at
the Danish colony of Tranquebar on 9 July 1706. From there they started preaching gospel and Baptized 250 Christians. He conducted seminary and built 2 churches. In 1716
He married. He translated Tamil Bile and some Tamil literatures. He died on 23 Feb 1719.
