An IP address can be determined by using the command-line tool ipconfig for Windows, and ifconfig for Unix and Linux. Although iproute2's "ip" command is sometimes more appropriate for Linux.

The IP address corresponding to a domain name can be determined by using the commands nslookup or dig.
