This page in a nutshell: Terms on Wikipedia can be difficult for outsiders to understand right away. This page helps explain these terms in ways non-Wikipedians can instantly understand. |
This page contains material that is kept because it is considered humorous. Such material is not meant to be taken seriously. |
This list is incomplete; you can help by adding missing items. |
Admin abuse
[edit]Admin abuse means that an administrator is doing exactly what their job requires, and is exercising their authority in an appropriate and useful manner in order to protect the encyclopedia, except they did it to me. See also involved
Baiting
[edit]Baiting means that someone else wouldn't let me win, so I was forced to violate WP:NPA.
Canvassing
[edit]All of these votes that are against my favor were solicited by someone, therefore someone was canvassing. As a result, I am entitled to cross out all the votes against my side and my side automatically wins.
Exception
[edit]Any revert I make is automatically an exception to the 3RR rule. Any other editor who reverts my work more than three times is in violation of 3RR. If more than one editor is reverting my work, they must be ganging up on me. The following are all valid exceptions to the 3RR rule:
- calling your edits vandalism,
- warning you about your edits,
- Declaring on the talk page of the article that I intend to make these edits,
- Believing that my own edits are right
- Having references for my edits

Ganging up
[edit]Whenever my edits are so egregiously bad that multiple independent editors, who have no known association with each other, have reverted me, it is called ganging up. This is often done in order to force me to violate 3RR. See also Stalking and Exception.
Involved
[edit]Any administrator whose name I recognize is involved. All of the following administrators are involved, and thus all are ineligible to use their admin powers against me:
- Any administrator who has ever edited any article I have also edited
- Any administrator who has ever warned me for any reason
- Any administrator who has previously blocked me, or responded to an unblock request of mine
- Any administrator who has been involved with a discussion I have been involved in, especially where they have taken a position I disagree with. See also admin abuse
Non-notable
[edit]If I have not heard of the subject of an article, they are automatically non-notable, even if they happen to currently be the head of state of a small African country. If you've heard of them, you're clearly disregarding consensus.
NPOV
[edit]NPOV means my own personal opinion, or views that are in line with my own personal opinion. See also POV
POV
[edit]POV means anything which is in conflict with my own personal opinion. In general, all edits in support of a politician or side in an ethnic conflict with which I disagree are "POV" edits, while those which support my side are "NPOV". See also NPOV
Stalking
[edit]Stalking means that my edits are highly disruptive, to the point where one or more users feels it is necessary to watch me closely. When I report a user as a stalker on an administrator noticeboard, it means that many more users should scrutinize my edits, and I likely deserve a block for my disruptive behavior.
Vandalism
[edit]Vandalism is any edit which I disagree with. If I want to revert another users edit, I merely have to include the word "vandalism" or the acronym "rvv" in my edit summary, and I have carte blanche to revert that user forever.
