With the success of Baahubali series, S. S. Rajamouli became widely recognized across the film. Thus his next film announcement received high anticipation. Finally, the film was officially announced in March 2018 with Ram Charan and Rama Rao being part of the film. This created more hype even before the start of the shooting.[1]

"Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava" (transl. Will you say yes or will you say no?) is an Indian Telugu-language song sung by Indravathi Chauhan and composed by Devi Sri Prasad for the 2021 soundtrack album Pushpa: The Rise of the film of the same name. Written by Chandrabose, the song is Indravathi Chauhan's debut venture.

It was released as the fifth single of the soundtrack album on 10 December 2021 while the full video version of the song was released on 7 January 2022. The song feautured Samantha performing alongside Allu Arjun, to the dance moves choreographed by Ganesh Acharya.

Background and composition

Devi Sri Prasad was hired to compose the soundtrack of the film. Music production of the film began in mid-2020. Later a Zoom video interaction, Prasad revelead that five songs were finalized for the soundtrack and had started composing the tunes during the nationwide lockdown.[2] By the end of May 2021, Devi has recorded composition of the songs including "Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava".

During the music production of the film, Prasad decided to feature a new singer to record the song. It was then Indravathi was selected to record the song. Speaking to The News Minute, Mangli (sister of Chauhan) told "When Devi Sri Prasad, the music director of the film, was looking for a fresh new voice to sing ‘Oo Antava’ he put the word out.  “Devi Sri Prasad sir was sent around ten videos of different folk singers performing, among which was one of Indravathi singing on my show. Devi Sri Prasad sir zeroed in on her and I got a call from his manager, asking if my sister would like to give a voice test. Soon she was selected and her voice was perfect for the song".[3] Mangli was hired to record Kannada version "Oo Anthiya Oo Oo Anthiya".

During the end phase of filming stage in early-November 2021,[4] Mythri Movie Makers have announced that an the song will be filmed on 15 November 2021 after which the film entered into the full-fledged post-production phase.[5] Samantha was hired to perform in the item number alongside Allu Arjun.

Release

On 15 November 2021, the makers of the movie Pushpa: The Rise announced a special song featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu through their social media handles. [6] They released a poster on 30 November that featured a back shot of Samantha and announced the commencement of shooting.[7] On 8 December 2021, the makers announced the release date of the lyrical as 10 December 2021.[8] A teaser of the song was released on 12 December 2021. The full video song was released on 7 January 2022.

Critical reception

Ritu Maria Johny of News18 in her review wrote that "the song comes across as a cheap, half-baked (or manipulative) attempt at reversing the spotlight on how men are to be blamed for objectifying women, irrespective of the clothes, complexion or body type, while the camera ironically sexualises Samantha’s gyrating body".[9] Subhash K Jha of Firstpost cited it as "not only surprising, but also highly inappropriate".[10]
