Parameters

[edit]
Parameters
Parameter Description
name The name of the subject.
image Image name: abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc., without the File: or Image: prefix. If an image is desired but not available, one may add yes to the |needs-photo= parameter of the {{WikiProject Biography}} template on the talk page. If no image is available yet, do not use an image placeholder.
image_upright Scales the image thumbnail from its default size by the given factor. Values less than 1 scale the image down (0.9 = 90%) and values greater than 1 scale the image up (1.15 = 115%).
alt Descriptive alt text for the image, for visually impaired readers. One word (such as photograph) is rarely sufficient. Do not copy-paste the value of |caption= (below) into this parameter. Example of the difference: "Willie Nelson at a concert in Dallas, 1989" is good as |caption= value; "Nelson in western-wear with an acoustic guitar, on stage in a daytime show with band in background" is an |alt= description. If nothing meaningful can be said that isn't already in the caption, use the stock text |alt=refer to caption.
caption Caption for image, if needed. Try to include the date of photo, some context, and the photographer if known (check the File: or Commons page for the image).
Personal information
full_name Full name of the subject.
nick_name Nickname of the subject.
nationality The subject's nationality. Should only be used if nationality cannot be inferred from the birthplace. Do not use a flag template.
birth_date The subject's birth date. If still alive, use {{birth date and age|year|month|day}}, otherwise use {{birth date|yyyy|mm|dd}}.
birth_place The subject's place of birth. Do not use a flag template.
death_date The subject's death date, if applicable. Use {{death date and age|death year|death month|death day|birth year|birth month|birth day}}.
death_place The subject's place of death, if applicable. Do not use a flag template.
death_cause Cause of death. Should be clearly defined and sourced, and should only be included when the cause of death has significance for the subject's notability, e.g. James Dean, John Lennon. It should not be filled in for unremarkable deaths such as those from old age or routine illness, e.g. Bruce Forsyth, Eduard Khil.
home_town The place where the person was raised and matured, if different from birthplace and residence. (See |birth_place=, above, for instructions on how to use this parameter, including: no flag templates, inappropriate linking, redundancy, anachronisms, "country" definitions, etc.)
residence The subject's place of residence. Do not use a flag template.
education Education, e.g. degree, institution and graduation year, if relevant.
occupation Occupation(s) other than skateboarding.
spouse Name of spouse(s), followed by years of marriage. Use the format Name (married 1950–present) for a current spouse, and Name (married 1970–99) for former spouse(s). Use article title (if linking) or common name. For multiple entries, use an inline list. For deceased persons still married at time of death, close the date range with death year.
partner If particularly relevant, or if the partner is notable; "partner" here means unmarried life partners (of any gender or sexual preference), not business partner. Use the format Name (1950–present) for current partner and Name (1970–1999) for former partner(s). Do not use truncated years (as in "1970–99").
children Only if independently notable themselves or particularly relevant. Number of children (e.g., three), or list of names if notable. For multiple entries, use an inline list. For privacy reasons, consider omitting the names of living children, unless notable.
height If the subject was notable for their height, or if height is relevant. If used, this should also include the year of the measurement if the person had not reached full adulthood when this stat was published. See documentation of this parameter at Template:Infobox sportsperson for more information.
weight If the subject was notable for their weight, or if weight is relevant. If used, this should also include the year of the measurement. See documentation of this parameter at Template:Infobox sportsperson for more information.
Skateboarding
status The subject's current status as a skateboarder, e.g. Professional, Amateur, Flow.
style The subject's skateboarding style, e.g. Vert, Street, Freestyle.
stance The subject's footedness, more often referred to as stance by skateboarders, e.g. Regular or Goofy.
speciality If relevant, the subject's speciality. (e.g. how Joey Brezinski's speciality is Manuals.)

Can be used somewhat interchangeably with signature_tricks.
Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

known_for Not to be confused with speciality or signature_tricks. If relevant, use this for whatever else the subject might be known for but please make sure it is relevant to skateboarding. (e.g. Part of the original "Piss Drunx" crew for Ali Boulala.)

Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

years_active Date range in years during which the subject was active in their principal occupation(s) and/or other activity for which they are notable. Use the format 1983–2011, or 1995–present if still active. Date ranges always use an en dash, not hyphen.
board_sponsor If relevant, the board company the subject currently rides for. Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.
shoe_sponsor If relevant, the (skate) shoe company the subject currently rides for. Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.
truck_sponsor If relevant, the skateboard truck company the subject currently rides for. Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.
wheel_sponsor If relevant, the skateboard wheel company the subject currently rides for. Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.
clothing_sponsor If relevant, list the clothing company or companies the subject is currently sponsored by Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.

Can be used somewhat interchangeably with apparel_sponsor.
Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

apparel_sponsor If relevant, list the apparel company or companies the subject is currently sponsored by. Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.

Can be used somewhat interchangeably with clothing_sponsor.
Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

other_sponsor If relevant, list any other company or companies that the subject is sponsored by. Please provide a direct link if the sponsor is mentioned in the Skateboarding companies article.

Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

achievements List any type of achievement the subject has accomplished that is worth mentioning. Open to interpretation, but as a general rule, consider whether it might be relevant.

Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

awards List type of award the subject has won in the field of skateboarding that is worthy of a mention. Please provide a direct link if the award is relevant to any of the articles in Category:Skateboarding competitions.

Use {{ubl}} or {{plainlist}} to format multiple entries.

signature An image of the person's signature. Please use image name: abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc., without the File: or Image: prefix
signature_size Default is 150px. If necessary, a signature can be resized manually as per the |image_size= parameter.
signature_alt Alt text for the signature image. For example, for File:Thomas Jefferson Signature.svg, the alt text might be |signature_alt= Th: Jefferson, spelling out the signature exactly as it appears in the image.

Microformat

[edit]

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

[edit]

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.

To include a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes

[edit]

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr
  • agent
  • bday
  • birthplace
  • category
  • country-name
  • deathdate

Please do not rename or remove these classes nor collapse nested elements which use them.
