Overview
[edit]Twice a week, microwave specialist Jory Caron microwaves different objects... so you don't have to! The "Jory Caron Microwave Laboratory 2.5" is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with tinfoil shielding, a ventilation system, emergency surge protectors, safety clothing, and many sexy microwaves.
Is It A Good Idea to Microwave This is a YouTube webshow that first began airing on July 1, 2007. The series is a improvised comedy that entails the host (Jory Caron) microwaving various different objects. The show also features director and producer Jonathan Paula, who usually makes comments off screen.
Since the show started in 2007, the YouTube channel which hosts the videos (JPizzle1122) has received more than 120,000 subscriptions as well as more than 2 million channel views. It from October 21, 2006 - March 2, 2009 to get 50,000 subscribers, which is almost 30 months, but it took from March 2, 2009 - June 13, 2009 to get another 50,000 subscribers, which is more than 3 months. New episodes from Season 4 receive around 20,000 views or more in the first week alone.
While not as successful as viral channels, the show has attracted a reliable fanbase, which make repeated requests for various objects to be microwaved. It comes as no surprise however, that many of the requests are for objects which have already been microwaved. Currently, as of July 15, 2009, they hold the #33 position of the Most Subscribed of All Time Directors.
Running Gags
[edit]"Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This" is known by its fans to have several running gags. One recurring gag is the The Jory Caron Laboratory, which started as a makeshift setting in a room that gradually evolved into a more elaborate setup. The Laboratory is famous for spawning another gag, in which Jory Caron refers to the tin-foil shielded door as a measure to protect their testicles, which all leads to Jory's signature line Nobody Likes Roasted Nuts!. Other current safety measures taken are a ventilation system of several fans, a surge protector (to shut off power to the microwave immediately), as well as goggles and dust/filter masks.
Another running gag (starting with the second microwave) is the fact that the microwaves are given a female name by Jory, which are immediately proclaimed to be Jory's significant other (usually by Jory himself). The names for the microwaves thus far have been Diane, Sandra, Helga, Lacey, Vanessa, Tracy, Whoopi, Jasmine, Susan, Beatrice, Jackie, and Samantha.
The first microwave was never named.
