Liko (リコ, Liko), is the female protagonist of the Pokémon Horizons: The Series, She replace Ash Ketchum, she is a trainer from Paldea and owns a mysterious pendant which was given by her grandmother. Her starter Pokémon is a Sprigatito.[1] [2] Among their journeys, they encounter Friede, a Pokémon professor whose Pokémon partner is Captain Pikachu.[3][4]

A few years prior

Liko received a mysterious pendant from her grandmother. After saying this gift would be important to her in the future, Liko's grandmother said that Liko should rely on her Pokémon to be able to venture out and face her fears on her journey.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series. She attends Indigo Academy, where she forms a friendship with her roommate Ann and receives her starter Pokémon, a Sprigatito. During the next days, Liko worked hard to strengthen her bond with Sprigatito by learning more about it and making it listen to her instructions in battle, but to little avail.


Liko awakening the pendant's power for the first time One day, a young man named Amethio introduces himself to her as her grandmother's representative and asks her for the pendant. Quickly distrusting his intentions, Liko runs away from him with Sprigatito's help until she is cornered by the group. Before any violent confrontation begins, Friede swoops in on her Charizard and begins battling Amethio's Ceruledge. Liko tries to escape, but is attacked by Ceruledge's Psycho Cut, which makes her pendant activate and protect her with a forcefield. In the next episode, Liko notices the presence of a mysterious Pokémon during the activation of this pendant's power.

After being rescued by Friede, Liko and Sprigatito are taken aboard his airship, where they are introduced to the Rising Volt Tacklers. Not long after, the ship is attacked by the Explorers, who coerce Liko to go with them. When Liko was about to give herself up, Sprigatito started yelling at her, making her realize she has been lying to herself. Then, Sprigatito followed Liko's instructions and unleashed a Leafage strong enough to break the forcefield around Wing Deck, but got blown overboard in the process, which allowed the Explorers to capture it before fleeing.

Liko joins the Rising Volt Tacklers, In the next day, Liko discovers that her mother hired the Rising Volt Tacklers to protect her and they go to the city where Amethio and his group were last seen. After running an errand for Mollie, she hears Murdock's Rockruff barking and runs towards it, only to find Murdock and Friede facing Conia. They chase her back to the Explorers' hideout, where Friede engages Amethio in a battle, allowing for her and Rockruff to find where Sprigatito was being held captive. Reunited with her Pokémon, Liko decides to trust the Rising Volt Tacklers and becomes part of the group.
