The Black Hammock Band is a high energy roots-based reggae, folk and rock act based out of Orlando, Florida – creating a sound that is strangely familiar yet delightfully fresh.

After gathering an eclectic group of musicians and recording the tracks for the album “Swamp Reggae” (Self released 2008), Front-man Geoffrey Cravero (vocals, guitar) began working with Leon McIntyre (bass, vocals, guitar) and Jason Misner (Drums, Percussion) to bring the album to life. While rehearsing, the trio immediately wrote several new songs stylistically ranging from their reggae-based foundations to folk, rock, blues, and country.

The trio commonly recruits guest performers whom regularly incorporate keys, horns and extra guitar in their arrangements. As a three to four piece group the band regularly performs in Orlando, FL commonly venturing to nearby cities including Gainesville, FL; Lakeworth, FL and Valdosta GA where their fan base is largely centered around a college-aged demographic. The band’s strong background in grassroots organizing has served as a strong background with which their fans strongly identify.

The group is currently working on new arrangements of their original tunes and beefing up their set with high energy and "down-home" covers spanning from their reggae roots through country, folk, rock and R&B. The band is expecting to release their highly anticipated first studio effort in the first quarter of 2009 followed by a tour of the South East USA in the spring followed by appearances at some of the nation’s most notable music and arts festivals.

In the beginning of 2008, band drummer Jason Misner was chosen to be filmed for an episode of MTV's True Life: series. The episode was to be entitled "True Life: Living off the Grid" and was to feature the van that was used for gigging and touring - Big Blue/Mobile Fortress and the band's effort to develop a method to procure or create bio-diesel fuel; production of the band's first go-around with merchandising as noted above. The filming included live performances of the band at the Back Booth (Orlando, FL)Underground Bluz (Orlando, FL), and the Valdosta State University's Earth Day festival (Valdosta, GA). The segment was eventually cut from the episode and the footage has yet to be publicly released.
