HISTORY:
[edit]Muhammad Ismail Khan, a prominent figure from the Yashkun tribe in Astore Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan[1][2], played a significant role in the development of the region. His early years were marked by his family’s influence, with his father serving as the Justero (village head) of Doyan.
FAMILY BACKGROUND:
[edit]Hailing from the ruling family of the Yashkun[3][4] tribe, Ismail Khan’s leadership qualities were passed down from his forefathers. His father (Abdur Raheem), the Justero of Doyan, was well-respected in the region, and this legacy of leadership heavily influenced his future contributions to the community.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
[edit]Before the partition of 1947, Muhammad Ismail Khan completed his education in Kashmir,[5] a hub of learning during that time. His education prepared him well for the challenges of public service and administration that he would face later in life.
CAREER AND SERVICES:
[edit]After completing his education, Ismail Khan joined the police force in Srinagar[6], in present-day Indian-administered Kashmir. However, after the partition, he returned to his ancestral region, where he shifted his focus to administrative roles.
He first served as the Assistant Political Agent[7] in Tangir, working to bring stability to the region. Later, he became the first Deputy Commissioner of the Northern Areas, and subsequently, the Deputy commissioner[8]r of District Ghizer[9]. His leadership and governance greatly contributed to the development of the Northern Areas.
