Roitika (Greek: Ροίτικα), also with the i accended is a village that is located in the municipality of Paralia, and south of Paralia which forms a boundary to its south. The population is around 2,000 and has a train station and a beach which is 200 m away from the highway. The neighboring communities are Paralia to the north, Mintilogli to the east, and Vrachnaiika and Monodendri to the south. Its size is small, about 1 km². Its width is as short as 400 to 600 and as long as 6 km. Agricultural lands used to dominate the north and south until housing was built between the 1970s and the 1980s; agricultural lands have disappeared to a fraction in the north and the rest is in the south with entirely groves and pastures. The centre forms two junctions for Mintilogi and south of that and is on a hilly setting of 5 to 10 m above sea level. The old GR-9 runs through Roitika while the new GR-9 bypasses Roitika. Hills are found in the east. Its nearest beach is in Monodendron. Forests are founded to the west and is lined up with the beach. The area also has restaurants and some piers. A road runs within the beach and the Gulf of Patras and has panoramic views of Aetolia-Acarnania and parts of Achaea.
History
[edit]GR-9/E55 to the 9th km (from Patras) was opened and the terminus was on this side of the boundary (west), and the westbound entry started to the west along with access to Mintilogi. In 2002, it was detoured and cutoff the westbound traffic until the beltway was opened in late-2003.
