August Maramaa (originally August Marfeldt) (born 6 April 1881, Aakre??, died 26 December 1941, Kirov) was mayor of Viljandi, Estonia, in the years 1919-1921, deputy in 1921-1927, and again mayor in 1927-1939.

[edit]August Maramaa was arrested by the NKVD while at a teachers' conference in Vigala. On 28th May 1941 he was tried, and sent to the Vjatlag labour camp, a lumber camp on the banks of the river Vjatka in Kirov, Russia, where he died later that year.
Memorials
[edit]In the Viljandi town hall there is a mural on the wall by the stairs in memory of August Maramaa. There is also sculpture of August Maramaa and his dog (NAME?) outside the town hall. It was created by Aili Vahtrapuu and was unveiled in August 2007. One of the streets in Viljandi is called August Maramaa Puiestee.
