Hello and Welcome to Wikipedia.
I notice that you've created a page James Zhou and assume this is yourself. Unfortunately, at Wikipedia, this is referred to as Vanity Articles. Your notability does not yet meet the criteria set down by Wikipedia editors to be included. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and, as such, it contains relevant information and noted figures. I have listed your article in the articles for nomination page and the issue will be resolved shortly but wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know why. I hope you enjoy Wiki. --manchesterstudent 00:12, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Do not re-post this vanity article. If you do, you face being temporarily blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thanks. Harro5 23:10, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Why do you have yourself marked as an administrator? --manchesterstudent 12:51, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
There, are you content?--Jamesino 17:48, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
No. To a new user, that administrator block may confuse them. Please remove it or I shall contact a real administrator. May I remind you that you are already on your last warning for abusing Wikipedia. Please ensure you treat this site with the respect it deserves. --manchesterstudent 09:32, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
My user page contains information about me. It is not an encyclopedic article, therefore the content on the page may not neccesarily be true or accurate. For anyone that has time to read it, the block clearly says "may", which is accurate for all users. All users MAY be an administrator.--Jamesino 15:10, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
There, I changed the format of the block.--Jamesino 15:10, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Why did you change my page? You have no right to change it. My user page is a mark of my individuality, not of your wishes and desires. Just because you see something you do not like, does not mean you can go on it and change it. As for your comment on how it might confuse new users: when you first went on Wikipedia and looked at user pages and came across the Administrator block, did you magically know that the user it an Administrator? Or did you stop and READ what the block says. Stopping and reading is what any new user will do when the first see something. When they read that I MIGHT be an Adminstrator, and compare it to other legitimate blocks that say "This user IS an administrator", they will note this discrepency. Having a modified Administrator block is merely a symbol. Have I ever pretended that I am REAL Administrator through editting and deletion of pages? No, I have not abused any powers that an Administrator possess by pretending that I am an Adminstrator. --Jamesino 20:30, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
On top of that, the Admnistrator block is changed to look like any other block. It no longer has a filled background that a real block has and it is shorter width-wise.--Jamesino 20:52, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
In addition, editing my page without my permission and consent could be considered vandalism. Please do not edit or change my User Page ever again without asking for permission first. Thank you. --Jamesino 21:00, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Per WP:UP, I can edit your userpage and it is not vandalism. I have contacted the administrators for intervention. --manchesterstudent 12:40, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
userbox
[edit]Just for the record, your box says "might" not "may" be an administrator. Why is it there? I accept your point that your userpage can contain anything you choose to insert therein. But still, why is it there?--Anthony.bradbury 17:39, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, it's the same reason why people put other tags such as "New Material Patroller" or "Member of Mensa", etc.... in their userpage. Fundamentally, I guess it has something to do with self-vanity, but also a sense of pride. --Jamesino 02:07, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
A sense of pride? Pride in what? You are pretending to be an administrator and your actions could confuse people. Rather than accepting this for the good of the Wiki community, you have decided your self-vanity is more important? You did this once before you when you created a vanity article. Perhaps you have problems in this area? --manchesterstudent 17:11, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Buddy, I have not abused powers that I do not have by pretending to be an administrator have I? It is not breaking any Wiki rules by having that block. Please leave me alone and stop harassing me. Thank you. By the way, it was not a self-vanity article. --Jamesino 22:48, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
I have removed it, and if you persist in re-adding it you will be blocked for disruption. Anthony is wrong - per WP:UP, you do not own your userpage, and anyone may edit it with good cause - like trying to confuse people over whether you are an administrator or not. You might be interested in {{User wikipedia/Administrator someday}}. --Sam Blanning(talk) 09:51, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Sam. --manchesterstudent 12:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
I've removed the AfD tag from this article. You never completed the process - you have to create the nomination page and add it to the daily log. See here for instructions. I would have finished the nomination off for you using the reason you provided on the talk page, but I don't think it would have stood much of a chance with that reasoning. Articles don't need references that can be accessed on Google - indeed, the best sources tend to be newspapers, journals and books which aren't available online at all. You're free to try anyway - the notability is questionable, but if you do renominate it I would leave out the bit about references on Google. --Sam Blanning(talk) 10:03, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Reference Desk: MSN Icons
[edit]- In MSN Messenger for Windows XP when someone sends you an emoticon and you right-click on it to add it, in what folder does the saved emoticon save into?--Jamesino 23:09, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- They are saved as .dat files in a folder "C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\(numbered folder for your Passport account)\CustomEmoticons". --Canley 02:03, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Is there any way that I can edit them, using for example, ImageReady of Adobe Photoshop?--Jamesino 17:06, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
You can use MS GIF animator and Paint: both are free...
Hope this helps.

Counter Vandalism
[edit]To become a member of the Counter-Vandalism Unit, do I just put the box in my userpage? --Jamesino 20:43, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Ref desk question
[edit]Hi,
I replied to your question about laptops on the ref desk. The question is a few days old, so I wanted to make sure you're still checking.

The Shot
[edit]That's another name for it. Look at articles during MJs second retirement. They'll call it the shot. --Twlighter 16:38, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ah ok. Jamesino 00:39, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
