The Ceylon Journal is a bi-annual, semi-academic journal that covers wide gamut of subject related to the history of Sri Lanka. It is a journal that has set its purpose in bridging the essence of the past with aspirations for a better future.^[1] The first volume of The Ceylon Journal was launched on August 2, 2024.^[2]

Background

The Ceylon Journal is a publication inspired by the life and works of Charles Ambrose Lorenz, a 19th-century lawyer, journalist, artist, musician, and legislator who was influential in Sri Lankan cultural and historical discourse. Established in 2024 by Sri Lankan historian Avishka Mario Senewiratne, the journal aims to continue Lorenz's legacy of celebrating and preserving Sri Lankan heritage.

The Ceylon Journal is a publication launched to explore various aspects of Sri Lankan heritage. It targets a discerning English-speaking audience both locally and internationally, balancing scholarly and accessible content. The journal covers topics such as history, art, archaeology, and more, featuring rare illustrations, photographs, and maps. While capturing the full scope of Sri Lanka's 2500-year history may be challenging, The Ceylon Journal aims to address existing gaps and raise awareness of the island's cultural and historical significance.
