Fictional Character Biography
[edit]Origin
[edit]In the 30th Century Harvest was a soldier. At that time metahumans had grown tired of helping the humans so ten decided to rule them and kill anyone who opposed them. This had started a war that raged on for years. The metahumans had kidnapped his son and Harvest later found out that they had killed him. He was with scientists who were making time travel possible when the metahumans put poison gas in their room. Before Harvest was killed he absorbed the chronal energy from the time machines. He travels back in time to many different places where he gains lots of technology, until he arrives when Superman and Lois Lane have a baby called Jon Lane Kent. Everyone of that time thought that Jon died on his fourth birthday from acute cellular incompatibility. Harvest stole his body and found out that it was only a temporary illness and that he could be brought back to life. Harvest used Jon as a weapon to kill all the metahumans and eventually Jon killed them all except for Superman, who had disappeared. Jon then died again from the same illness as before[1].
To save Jon and kill Superman, Harvest used his last chronal energy to travel back to the 21st Century. There, he uses some of the technology he picked up to make a life support armour for himself because he was growing old, but the armour was also equipped with weapons. He gathers DNA from Superman and Lois Lane, Jon's parents. He builds different "Colonies" around the world where he can "harvest" young metahumans to kill each other, thus how he gets his name. The organisation he makes out of this is called N.O.W.H.E.R.E. When this event called the "Culling" happens, where he pits the metahuman teens against each other, he chooses the metahumans who survived it to be in his team the "Ravagers", that he used to collect more metahuman children. He uses the DNA of Lois Lane and Superman to create a clone of Jon Lane Kent at his Colonies, and hires brilliant scientists to keep it alive. Until now the clone of Jon was not alive, but when Harvest was satisfied within team of Ravagers he ordered Caitlin Fairchild, one of his workers, to kill the clone. Just before he was about to get killed the clone broke free of his incubation cell.[1]. This clone comes to be Superboy and joins the Teen Titans who are working against N.O.W.H.E.R.E.
The Culling
[edit]Harvest first appears when the Teen Titans are trying to rescue Superboy from one of N.O.W.H.E.R.E's labs. He defeats the Titans easily before they rescue Superboy[2]. He brings them to one of his Colonies where he gives them to Omen and eventually Leash brings them to another Colony with all the other kids[3]. Harvest also gets his Ravagers to capture the Legion Lost and bring them to the arena for the Culling, called the Crucible[4]. He later sends Leash out to bring the Teen Titans (except for Skitter) and Lightning to the Arena hoping that they will fight the Legion because the Titans think they are working for N.O.W.H.E.R.E and the Legion Lost thinks the same about the Teen Titans. After they realise that they both don't work for Harvest, Leash brings the other kids into the Crucible, but when they are defeated Harvest sends the Ravagers in[5]. The Ravagers eventually get defeated and Harvest himself comes in to defeat the Legion, the Titans and some of the other kids (who later become a good team of the Ravagers)[6].
The Legion Lost and Teen Titans keep trying again and again to defeat him but they keep failing. They send Dawnstar, Gates, Bunker, Thunder and Lightning to rescue the rest of the kids while the others keep Harvest busy[7]. After Wildfire nearly sacrificing his own life to destroy Harvest, the Legion escapes while the Teen Titans finish Harvest off. The Legion Lost manage to destroy the Crucible before they travel back to their own time in Harvest's time bubble. At that time Red Robin nearly defeated Harvest but he was left behind with the rest while Superboy and Wonder Girl nearly escaped[8].
In "Legion Lost" the Legion had to "form an uneasy alliance" with Harvest when they were against Lord Daggor and Thraxx[9]. He reappears in Superboy #19 where he tells his origin[1] . Harvest also makes a few appearances in "The Ravagers" and "Superboy" series.
Death
[edit]Harvest returns in Teen Titans, having built a new Colony in Africa. The Titans find out and use Danny the Alley to get there. He pretends to have reformed by bringing all the children that died in the Cullings back to life and "healing" them from their powers. He convinces Red Robin that he is good now, but Raven finds a giant strand of living DNA, from all the metahuman kids, that Harvest keeps in the Colony. He has created it so he can control it against all of the other metahumans. The DNA attacks them and when they are defeated Harvest appears to talk to Red Robin. Red Robin distracts him and makes him angry while Bunker comes up behind him and destroys his armour. Raven detonates the DNA strand with her magic powers and gets the Teen Titans out of the building before it explodes and Harvest is presumed dead[10].
Powers and Abilities
[edit]Harvest owns lots of high tech weaponry for example is armour and his wings. His scythe can shoot powerful energy blasts from it. His armour is not just to protect him but to give him life support because he is old. He has a brilliant scientific mind. He gained chronokinesis powers when he absorbed the energy of the time machine, but it was only limited and takes a lot of time to travel around the time stream.
In other media
[edit]Harvest appears as a Heroclix in a 2013 pack called Teen Titans. His appearance is identical to the comic appearance.
