Professor Jamal Saleh Al Wakeel (born 1956) is a Saudi national and a prominent author and co-author of many medical research articles submitted and published to American Journal of Nephrology, Annals of Saudi Medicine and Saudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation[1] where he is at present, a member of the National Editorial Board.
He is also a well renowned medical professor, doctor, consultant, inventor, and a national and international speaker in conferences. Over the past two and a half decades, he has worked in a wide-variety of professional capacities in both the private and public sectors. Furthermore, he had written books which now have been very useful for medical students and health workers who are in the same field like him.
Education
[edit]Prof. Al Wakeel have earned his MBBCh degree in 1980 in Cairo University. His specialty is Internal Medicine which he obtained in 1987 at the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and sub-specialty is Nephrology which he obtained in 1990 at the same institution, and FRCPC (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada) in 1988. His focuses are on Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Renal Transplantation and Renal Diseases. His great interests are in Diabetic Nephropathy and Hypertension.
Activity
[edit]Before he settled as a Professor of Medicine, he possessed a very important and high ranking role in some prestigious institutions and societies. He seated as a Chairman of Saudi Board of Nephrology in 2003 to 2011. He became the Vice President of The Saudi Society of Nephrology for one year before he landed as a President of the said society in 2006 to 2011. In some medical institutions like Security Forces Hospital, King Fahad Medical City and King Khalid University Hospital, he acquired the position of being the Head of Nephrology Unit for more than ten (10) years and Chairman of Internal Medicine for several years. During these years of service, he provided a highly exceptional performance and excellence. After these journeys he had to success, he is currently fulfilling the duties as a Professor of Medicine in King Saud University (1998 to date) wherein his supervision to medical students demonstrated a remarkable outcome to each who graduated under his direction. He also carry out the duty as a part-time consultant in Dallah[2] hospital where he receives 50 patients per week, and an editorial board in some few world distinguished journals such as Saudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation (SJKDT)[3] and The Lancet. Moreover, he is also an active member and contributor in the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) in the GCC.
Publications
[edit]Prof. Al Wakeel have participated in writing and submission of manuscripts in the field of medicine. These research articles (110 papers) were published in several scientific journals such as the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Saudi Medical Journal and Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation. He attended various scientific conferences, which includes: The ASN Kidney Week, ERA-EDTA Congress, World Congress of Nephrology and The NKF (National Kidney Foundation) Spring Clinical Meetings and submitted abstracts along with (126 conferences attended). With these achievements, he became one of the significant icons in the world of medical journals and publications.
