Verdant peridot

This gem stone is the August birthstone, and is typically pale green. It is sometimes more simply called Peridot. The word "peridot" is French, but probably is derived from the Arabic word for gem--"faridat" (Gems: Smithsonian Nature Guide, Ronald Louis Bonewitz, 2013.).

It is a silicate mineral, which also can be golden green or a red brown. According to website of the American Gem Society, Peridot "is formed deep in the Earth's mantle and is brought to the surface by volcanos".
