The South are an English pop group formed in 2009 from members of The Beautiful South, which split in 2007.[1][2] The group includes former lead singers Dave Hemingway and Alison Wheeler, keyboardist Damon Butcher, and horn players Gaz Birtles and Tony Robinson. Dave Hemingway previously founded The Housemartins with Paul Heaton and then together with paul Heaton went on to form The Beautiful South. Alison Wheeler joined The Beautiful South and continued with Hemingway to form The South with other previous members of The Beautiful South. Dave Hemingway sang [The Beautiful South]]'s only UK number 1 hit, A Little Time. The South are now signed to Zoo Records and release their first album "Sweet Refrains" November 26th 2012.

Live performances
[edit]The band have toured since early 2011 and after a change of management in July 2011 have played several UK music festivals including Solfest and Beladrum festival in Scotland. The performance from Beladrum was televised live on BBC Alba on 5th August 2012.
