User:Jackson Peebles/Adoption/PantherLeapord Exam 2
This article was the subject of an educational assignment in 2013 Q2. Further details were available on the "Education Program:Western Michigan University/Wikipedia (2013 Q2)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki. |
1.) Q- In your own words, explain what it means to assume good faith.
- A- To assume good faith is to realize that NOT everyone who disagrees with you is trying to hurt the encyclopedia. Unless there is undeniable proof to the contrary they are trying to improve the encyclopedia. It is also to treat others with respect and not snap at them for the slightest mistake like a police officer having a bad day and wanting to arrest someone for something.
- 5/5 Good simile, and I think that's a good description.
2.) Q- Explain how you would deal with this scenario using specifics: You are working in New Page Patrol and come across a new page that, though it's content is fine, has a few minor formatting issues. The page is three minutes old. You fix the format issues on the page. A few minutes later, you get a nasty note on your talk page which states that you caused the new editor, who created the page, an edit conflict by performing your few minor corrections. He was unaware of how to correct an edit conflict, and therefore lost everything he was trying to do. He even goes so far as to start an AN/I discussion about how you're incompetent and should butt out of his editing. What specific steps would you take? Disclaimer: This is based on a true story. Note: A similar question will be asked once we get to the dispute resolution question, but simply based on assuming good faith, I want to hear how you'd approach this scenario.
- A- The first thing I would do is apologize to the editor on their talk page in a polite way. Then I would provide them with advice on how to resolve any future edit conflicts and offer to assist them with the changes they were trying to make. As for the AN/I I would comment on it that I have apologized for the accident and make no further comment.
- 5/5 Excellent answer. Apologizing always goes a long way, and the ANI is groundless, so making the note should be sufficient to administrators. If it is pursued, you can always seek out the help of another experienced editor or talk directly to an administrator, explaining the whole situation and linking to edits. It's never a bad thing to help fix formatting, so this is a pure accident.
3.) Have a look at the conversation below:
What's the best car in the world? -- Rod
|
Well, the Passat lover clearly loves his Passat, but who is he replying to? In
3a.) Position A?
- A- Rod's Mate
- 5/5 Yes
3b.) Position B?
- A- Rod
- 5/5 Yes - you've got this indentation down.
3c.) An editor who has a low edit count seems awfully competent with templates. Should he be reported as a possible WP:SOCK?
- A- Not nessicerily. This could be an editor who had just decided to create an account after getting experience editing wikipedia and using templates as an IP.
- 5/5 Good job meeting the WP:AGF policies! Correct, we assume good faith and let them be unless they're causing harm and resemble a similar user. Competence alone should not be used against someone.
Once you have finished, please notify me on my talk page, then proceed to Lesson 3: Vandalism.
- 25/25 - Perfect score! Absolutely wonderful job, please progress to the next lesson!
