The Q32 is a MTA Regional Bus Operations bus route that stretches between Jackson Heights, Queens, and Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan. The Q32 runs on Roosevelt Avenue and Queens Boulevard in Queens; the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge over the East River; and Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue in Manhattan. The Q32 runs in a west-east route in both Queens and Manhattan, serving Jackson Heights, Woodside, Sunnyside, Long Island City, and Midtown Manhattan. It serves major transit hubs like Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street, Penn Station, Grand Central, and the 34th Street–Herald Square station.

Description

Westbound

The westbound Q32 originates in the Northern edge of Jackson Heights, located at Northern Boulevard and 82nd Street. The Q32 bus travels south on 82nd Street until the bus turns right at Roosevelt Avenue, right underneath the 82nd Street station on the 7 and <7>​ trains. From there, it goes straight on Roosevelt Avenue until the avenue intersects Queens Boulevard at 48th Street. The Q32 bus continues right onto Queens Boulevard, then turns left once it approaches 41st Avenue. It directs onto a curve that is Queens Plaza North and heads onto the left once it starts heading on the bridge. The bus heads on East 60th Street and continues south onto Fifth Avenue where the Q32 turns left. The Q32 serves Fifth Avenue heading southbound. The bus then turns right on West 37th Street and heads west until it reaches 7th Avenue. Then it makes a left, continuing south along 7th Avenue until it reaches West 32nd Street, where it makes another left and terminates.

Eastbound

The eastbound Q32 starts on West 32nd Street in front of Penn Station and continue eastward until it reaches Madison Avenue, where it makes a left. From there, it heads north, serving Madison Avenue until it reaches East 59th Street, where it turns right. It reaches Second Avenue and the Q32 would head straight to travel across the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge. It reaches to the eastern part of the bridge where it makes a right turn at the right lane to access Queens Plaza South and make a stop at 28th street. The Q32 heads onward to Queens Boulevard where it continues eastward until it reaches 46th Street, its last eastbound stop on Queens Blvd. The Q32 must be on the left part of the eastbound lane in order to access Roosevelt Avenue, where it heads eastward onto 81st Street to make a left. Then it briefly serves 81st Street until it reaches its terminal at Northern Boulevard and 81st Street.

History

The Q32 started its route on July 9, 1925 as part of the Fifth Avenue Coach Company. It was mainly route 15, having the southern terminal to be located at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street. After the coach company had several disputes as to who takes over, the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority took over on March 22, 1962. On July 1, 1974, the route became officially recognized as the M32.
