IP Users are users that have not created an account and still a contributor to Wikipedia. An IP address is a numerical label given to an electronic device. It serves two purposes: host or organization interface ID and locating location used by that device.[1] IP users (generally known as Unregistered Users) have the same ability to edit unprotected pages. They do not have the ability to create articles, edit articles that has protections (see here for more info).

Benefits Becoming A Registered User

[edit]

There are so many advantages of creating an account for Wikipedia. Below are just some of the advantages.

  1. Choose Your Username. You can customize your personal username to fit whatever you desire. (NOTE: Your username is public for all to see; please review over the Username policy to view which username is acceptable and which is not.)
  2. Edit Protected Pages. There are pages that are protected from vandalism, disruptive editing, and such, and so, they must be protected. But, if you want to edit pages that are protected (view here to see the full list of protected pages), then with a Wikipedia account you can do that. (NOTE: You will be auto-confirmed when your account is at least 4 days old and have more than 10 edits. View here to get a broader understanding of user access levels.)
  3. Create Articles. If an article you're looking for isn't on Wikipedia's mainspace, you can create one! (NOTE: In order to obtain that ability, you must have an account more than 4 days and have more than 10 edits.)

Registered User

[edit]

Once you've created an account, you will now be known as a Registered User.
