Bio

[edit]

Hello! My name is Jacque Gonzalez and I created this Wikipedia account for my English 101 class, but I also plan to use it on my free time. Some of my interests are science, animals, music, and television. I have 3 dogs and a fish, 2 of my dogs are Jack Russell Terriers, and I have a 7 month old German Shepherd. I also have a Beta fish named Blue. Another interest of mine is music. I listen to a lot of R&B, rap, and hip hop, but I honestly enjoy any kind of music. On my free time, I enjoy watching television shows from Netflix, such as The Office, Grey's Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Good Place, etc! I also enjoy spending time with my family, or hanging out with my pups.

Some parts of Wikipedia I'm interested are topics relating to Science or Health Care, since I plan to become a Surgical Nurse in the future. I'm also interested on any news about change that are happening around the world, or natural disasters. Another topic I plan on researching is Mathematics, because I struggle with math sometimes, therefore if I do some in depth reading, I would definitely improve my math skills.

Article Evaluation

[edit]

I recently bought a Siamese fighting fish (also known as a betta fish), from Petco. I've never actually owned a fish before, so I'm a bit curious about learning more about this guy! Anyways, I decided I should inform myself about this fish by looking up facts online and checking out the Wikipedia page about betta fish. Once I visited the betta fish page on Wikipedia, I found 3 aspects that were worth commenting on, such as the lack of reliable citations, under-represented viewpoints and citations not being up to date.

Citations

[edit]

As soon as I clicked on the Siamese fighting fish page on Wikipedia, the first thing I noticed was that at the very top of the page, it mentions that the article needs additional citations for verification. As soon as I read that, it made me question whether all these facts were reliable or not. Although there is a good amount of citations, they are not completely reliable. There are many facts about betta fish on this page, but the citations are unreliable.

Structure/Completeness

[edit]

After reading the reproduction section, I noticed that the baby betta fish is under-represented in this article. This article spends a lot of time describing the reproductive cycle, but doesn't go in depth about the actual baby. All of a sudden, the article labels the baby betta fish as "fry", which left me a bit confused because I was unaware that "fry" was another name for the baby betta fish.

Age

[edit]

Although the article seems to be up to date with the last edit being made on October 2019, the references included from this year are unreliable/dead links. There are 6 references from 2019 included, but only 3 are reliable and related to betta fish. Two of the links are dead links and the other does not relate to betta fish at all.

Summary

[edit]

Although this article consists of many facts about betta fish, I would say that the article is unreliable. The page consists of many citations, but they are either unreliable, dead links, or do not relate to betta fish whatsoever. Other than the lack of reliable sources, I noticed that baby betta fish were unrepresented in this article and may confuse the reader by not talking about what a "fry" even is, which I then discovered was a baby betta fish. The article was up to date, as well as its citations, but many of these citations were unreliable and dead links.
