Mario Schmidt (born 1960 in Freiburg, Germany) is a physicist and enviromental scientist. He has been full professor for sustainable management since 1999 at Pforzheim University,Germany and is director of the Institute for Industrial Ecology (INEC).[1]

Life

[edit]

Schmidt studied physics and astronomy at Freiburg University and at Heidelberg University. He obtained his PhD in the field of environmental material flow analysis from Leuphana University Lueneburg. In the 1970s and early 1980s he became involved in the German environmental movement. He was involved in setting up one of the first independent environmental institutes in Germany, the Institut für Energie- und Umweltforschung Heidelberg (IFEU).[2] In between he was officer at the ministry for environment of the state of Hamburg. Since 2012 he has been a member of the advisory board of the Baden-Wuerttemberg state government for sustainable development. Since 2015, he has also been an honorary professor at the Faculty of Sustainability at Leuphana University Lueneburg.
