The Carver Wolverhampton Marathon is an annual marathon that is part of a series of events which constitute the Carver Marathon City Marathon Events.
The other events occurring at the same time as the Marathon include a Half Marathon, Banks's Run, Children's Run and a Cycling Event.
The marathon is held in Wolverhampton, England on September every year.
The main purpose of these events is to raise money for charity.
History
[edit]The marathon was first organized in 1998 by the late Roy Carver and Ian Savage. then Carver's Groups Sales Director. they came up with a strategy to put the Wolverhampton Marathon back on the City events program.
The success of this and subsequent events relied upon sponsorship. Fortunately a number of Companies and Associations were keen to get on board, together with the loyal members of the Marathon Organizing Committee.[1]

The sponsors for 2014 were: Acorn Signs, Angel Springs, Bank's (Marston's), BBC WM, Callprint, Charles Clark Toyota, Cousins, Carvers (Wolverhampton) Ltd, Express & Star, Greggs, Lavendon Group plc, NJB, Muras Baker Jones, Places for People Leisure Ltd, Premier Electrics, Raynet ( Radio Amateurs Emergency Network ), Signal 107, Veloxserv, West Midlands Police, Wolverhampton City Council, Wolverhampton West Magazine. The Race
[edit]The six categories cater to different participants. They are the Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.097 km), Banks's Run (10 km), Cycling Event ( 20 km ), and the Children's Run.
All events start and finish on Park Road West. The route consists of closed roads, open roads, paths and cycleways, and controlled roads. [3]
The event organizer is Mr Neil Kendrick. He is part of Carvers Building Supplies.One of the main sponsors for the event. [4]

[edit]The Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon focuses mainly on supporting local charities. in total since 1998 the marathon events have raised in excess of £300.000.
