Joey Yap

Dato' Joey Yap (born July 5, 1977) is an international Speaker & Consultant, bestselling Author and TV personality in Chinese Metaphysics. He is currently based in Malaysia. He makes use of Chinese metaphysics to create a change in people. He believes when we understand our profiles, we will understand the path of least resistance and how to become wealthy [1] Yap's focus has always been constant: developing, improving, and using Chinese Metaphysics to improve the lives of people. His primary mission is giving Chinese Metaphysics its due and bringing it to the world [2]. His practical and result-driven take on Feng Shui and BaZi [3] sets him apart from other older, traditional masters and practitioners in the field. He shows people how the ancient teachings can be utilized for tangible REAL world benefits. The success he and his clients enjoy, thanks to his advice, is positive proof that Feng Shui and BaZi Astrology works. His success is not limited to matters of Feng Shui and BaZi; Dato' is an avid property investor who also holds an interest in diverse businesses.He is also a successful entrepreneur, leading his own companies and property investment portfolio.


Yap has achieved bestselling author status with over 100 books, on Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology (BaZi), Face Reading and Yi Jing, which has sold more than three million copies to-date. Many of his titles have also topped the Malaysian and Singaporean MPH Bookstores' bestseller lists. Some of his books which have been translated to French, Polish, Russian, Thai and Indonesian have also topped their own nation's bestseller lists.

Life and Early Beginnings

Born in the Year of the Snake, Yap is the eldest of four children. Yap’s foray into Chinese Metaphysics began when he was 15 years old. He was disappointed to discover there were no schools or authoritative books on this subject. He could only meet up with some masters and studied the subject with them during his family trip in Hong Kong. He honed his understanding of the subject by following the masters in their consultations and his interest grew further as he became older.[4]


While his peers were busy pursuing regular interests such as guitar and sports, Yap buried himself studying all he could about Chinese Metaphysics. Still, he did not foresake the conventional route, studying for an accounting degree at Australia’s Curtin University of Technology. As it was common for students to take up part-time jobs while pursuing their degrees, Yap, not surprisingly, started giving Feng Shui consultations. It paid off handsomely – on a part-time basis, he earned between A$3,000 and A$4,000 a month.


After graduated, Yap returned home to Malaysia and “negotiated” with his dad allowing him a 6 month off before he started to continue his accounting profession. Yap couldn’t tell his dad that he has chosen Feng Shui as his career path because his dad would have thought he had gone mad. However by the end of the agreed deadline, clients were flooding in and he was making some serious money this is where Yap officially began his profession in Chinese Metaphysics.


During the initial years, Yap travelled frequently to the United States, Germany, Ireland and many other parts of the world to give talks and provide informal courses with the aim of promoting interest in the subject. As his popularity grew, many started coming to Malaysia to seek his advice. He also started drawing substantial local interest. At the age of 26, he ranked in his first million doing what he loved most.[5] In 2008, Yap was listed in The Malaysian Tatler as the Top 300 Most Influential People in Malaysia and Prestige's Top 40 Under 40. Yap founded the world's largest and first specialized metaphysics consultation firm - Joey Yap Consulting Group (JYCG). He has worked with many established corporations from the Fortune 500 list His consultancy, and professional speaking and training engagements with Microsoft, HP, Bloomberg[9],Citibank, HSBC and many more have seen the benefits of Classical Feng Shui and BaZi find their way into corporate environment and culture. Celebrities, property developers and other large organizations turn to him when they need the best. After years of field-testing and fine-tuning his teachings, he has put together a team in the form of Joey Yap Research International. The objective of this Research Team is to scientifically track and verify the positive impact of Feng Shui and BaZi on subjects and ultimately to assist more people in achieving their life goals.


Yap has also created the Decision Referential Technology™, offering decision reformation training on how to make better decisions in business and in personal life. He has led his team of highly trained consultants to help clients create more positive change in corporate boardrooms and increase production in their companies, helping people see their business outlook for each year so they may anticipate, plan and execute their strategies successfully. He has helped and worked with governments and the wealthiest people in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Japan. His clients include multinationals, developers, tycoons and royalties.


On Bloomberg, he is featured on-air as a regular guest on the subject of Feng Shui annual forecasts.[10] [11] [12] Yap was invited to share his Ancient Eastern ‘energy’ practices and meets Western Science with Dr Fred Alan Wolf in San Francisco. He is retained by twenty-five top Malaysian property developers to help determine suitable candidates to take top management, change their space and Feng Shui mechanism, the way they make decisions, and understand the natural cosmic energies that can influence their decision-making.


Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics

Yap set up the Mastery Academy in 2004 to offer formal classes to those interested in pursuing a career in Chinese metaphysics. It is the first academic institution of its kind to blend ancient knowledge with modern teaching and learning methods. Yap take advantage of the best of technology and fully endorse the use of the Internet for interactive, online, and distance learning to create a supportive, nurturing, and global education community. Thousands of students from all around the world have learnt and mastered BaZi, Classical Feng Shui, and other Chinese Metaphysics subjects through Yap’s structured learning programs, books and online training. The academy has since drawn some 200,000 students from 30 countries. And Yap has 30 instructors assisting him. Many graduates have gone on to become successful in their own right, becoming sought after consultants, setting up their own consultancy businesses or even becoming educators, passing on Chinese Metaphysics knowledge to others. Feng Shui and Astrology

Every year Yap conducts his ‘Feng Shui and Astrology’ seminar to a crowd of more than 3500 people at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Yap also takes his annual seminar on a world tour to Frankfurt, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, London, Sydney, Singapore and beyond. [22] [23] [24]

Yap has appeared in some major international broadcasting media in around the world.His work has been featured regularly in various popular global publications and networks like Time [25] , Forbes [26], the International Herald Tribune [27] and Bloomberg. In addition to being a regular guest on various radio and TV shows, he has also written columns for The New Straits Times, The Star and The Edge – Malaysia’s leading newspapers.

Yap has hosted his own TV series and was invited as a guest on TV shows:

  • ‘Discover Feng Shui with Joey Yap’[28] on 8TV, a local Malaysian network in 2005;
  • ‘Walking The Dragons with Joey Yap’[29] on Astro Wah Lai Toi, Malaysia’s cable network in 2008;
