From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cellular Telecom Exchange A cellular telecom exchange (CTX) is a telephone exchange or switching system that serves a private organization and performs the unification of disparate cellular users. The central switchboard provides the functions for IVR, and call handling functions, as do the individual handsets via an application. Calls can be directed to individual cell phones and their identities are masked to the caller. A key feature of CTX is the ability to transfer a calls from one cell phone to another.

Each cell phone in the group will typically have an internal virtual extension assigned to it, and is referred to as an extension. Although the cell phone has a carrier assigned MDN, the CTX will see the cell phone as an extension from the main switchboard.

Initially, the primary advantage of a CTX is the cost savings for internal phone calls: handling the circuit switching locally reduces charges for telephone service via the central switchboard. As CTX systems gain popularity, they are being equipped with services that were not available in the public network, such as hunt groups, call forwarding, and extension dialing. The primary innovator of the CTX technology is Toto Communications, Inc. with their "Lynx" product.

A CTX is differentiated from a PBX in that users of a PBX system are generally office bound and can only forward calls to a cell phone. This does not provide any means for handling a call after it comes to the cell phone. Voice mail also resides on the cell phone instead of a central server, and is not typically also transcribed to email for delivery via mail client.

Features for CTX systems include: - Fully mobile cloud based solution - Multiple main or department numbers - Auto attendant / IVR - SMS sending, including CLI of current caller to an employee or employee's number to a caller - Mobile app for Android or iOS with
