Dana J. Weigel became a flight director at NASA in 2005.[1][2][3][4][5] She has also been leading the research on Space Shuttle repair methods in order to prevent disasters during reentry back to earth. Prior to her appointment of flight director she worked for Barrios Technology as one of the Extravehicular Activity Officers (EVA) on STS-109, and supporting the crew on projects for the Hubble Telescope and the International Space Station.[1] She began as an EVA in mission control beginning in 2000, then making the transition to NASA in 2004.[1] During the time she was promoted to flight director she had been working as an return-to-flight EVA Officer on operations that focused on repairs and maintenance of the Space Shuttle thermal protection systems.[1] She is a graduate of Texas A&M University receiving a Bachelors Degree in mechanical engineering in 1993.[6][1] She has also received national awards for her achievements.
