Though the San are more known for their hunting-gathering culture, they also had a well developed musical tradition. Music played an important role in their daily lives as means for self-expression in dealing with issues such as hunting and foraging.
The San have had a huge influence on the musical instruments of south Africa. It is generally believed that many of the string instruments in south Africa originally descended from the San hunting bow. The hunting Bow was also alternatively used as a musical instrument.[1]
