Structure

[edit]

PCP is a polychlorinated aromatic.

chemical structure of pentachlorophenol - a benzene ring with 5 chlorine atoms and a hydroxyl group

Degradation

[edit]

PCP is degraded by some bacteria, including Sphingobacterium chlorophenolicum[1]

PCP→TCHQ→TriCHQ→DCHQ→2,4-dichloro-3-hydroxy-cis,cis-muconic semialdehyde [1]
