Tineke Postma (August 31 1978, Heerenveen, NL) is one of the leading ladies in the Dutch jazz scene and is about to conquer the international jazz scene. In 2003,Tineke gratuaded with Honors at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she has been teaching since 2005. Having received no less than two scolarships to study at the Manhattan School for Music in New York, she was being taught by Dick Oatts, David Liebman and Chris Potter.
Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderly, John Coltrane, Miles Davis among others, are the great inspirations for Tineke’s remarkable compositions and virtuosity, which have been rewarded with several prestigious awards,among which the prestigious Midem “International Jazz Revelation of the Year Award” in (2006 which had been broadcasted live and nationwide on the French tv, channel France 3), the “ Jazz All Star Award” (2003) and the Dutch awards: "Langs de Lijn Award" (2007), "Singer Laren Jazz Award" (2002), "Heijmans Award" (2004). On 14 July, she received the “Jazz Revelation of 2009 Award” as well as the “Public’s Favourite Award” at the Jazz à Juan Festival (France). She will perform there at the 50th celebration of this festival.
In 2008, Tineke had been nominated for another important Dutch Prize: the Notenkraker Award. This year, 2009, she had been nominated for the Paul Acket Award (North Sea Jazz).
Projects
The Tineke Postma Quartet (Marc van Roon on piano, Frans van der Hoeven on bass and Martijn Vink on drums) was founded in 2002 and has played at many international festivals, like North Sea Jazz, Middelheim Festival in Antwerpen, Festival,Young Euro Jazz Berlin, Pori Jazz Festival (Finland) , Trondheim Jazz Festival (Norway), Molde Jazz Festival (Norway) , the Jakarta Jazz Festival (Indonesia) Yokohama Jazz Festival ( Japan) and the Hanoi Jazz Festival (Vietnam).
Tineke recorded her new cd “The Traveller” with the Tineke Postma International Quartet, featuring Geri Allen, Scott Colley and Terri Lyne Carrington which started in February 2009. They performed at the North Sea Jazz 2009, Barbican Hall (London), Jazz a Ramatuelle (France).
The cd The Traveller has been released in The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg on 1 May 2009 and will be released in Europe, the US and Japan shortly. Tineke performed during the Summer with the above mentioned musicians at the Barbican Hall in London, North Sea Jazz and at Jazz à Ramatuelle in France.

“Billie and Me”, a musical tribute to Billie Holiday with Terri Lyne Carrington, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves and Joan Osnborne gave Tineke the chance to play at Carnegie Hall (New York), Kennedy Center (Washington), UCLA Royce Hall (LA), Orchestra Hall (Chicago), Byham Theatre (Pittsburgh), Eisenhower Auditorium-Penn State (University park).
Tineke toured internationally with the Terri Lyne Carrington Group (Geri Allen, Esperanza Spalding, Matthey Garrisson, ea). They played at the Red Sea Jazz Festival (Israel), Beantown Jazz Festival (Boston, US) and the International Jazz Festival Munster (Germany)
In 2003, Tineke performed with the Sisters in Jazz Project in the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival in Washington, IAJE in Long Beach, as well as at the North Sea Jazz, Jazz à Vienne (France) and Umbria Jazz (Italy).
Tineke formed a trio with the Dutch master-drummer Han Bennink and bassist Ernst Glerum. They performed at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam in 2008.
Tineke performed with Esperanza Spalding at the Bimhuis (Amsterdam), North Sea Jazz (2009) and will play as a guest of bassist Esperanza Spalding in 2009.

Tineke was featured as the only European artist in the prestigious US documentary series Icons Among Us: jazz in the present tense -- "Everything Everywhere" which had been broadcasted nationwide on 11 May 2009 Documentary Channel (Dish 197) as well as NYCTV and many other TV channels.
in 2007 Tineke Postma was a guest in the Dutch programme Vrije Geluiden (VPRO/NPS), where she will be seen in the Autumn of 2009 .
