Alexander Mitchell, also known as KOAN (/koʊˈɑːn/), is an Australian born artist, photographer, and curator, renowned for his contributions to street art, Japanese contemporary art[1], and media art. His curatorial work is characterized by an iconoclastic and collaborative spirit[2], coupled with a willingness to take risks.

He is part of a family with ties to the creative arts: his sister Penelope Mitchell[3] is an actress known for her roles in film and television, his cousin Radha Mitchell[4] is an actress with an career in the Australian and international film industries, and his brother Christopher Mitchell is a theater producer[5].
