Proposals

[edit]

In 1963, after the 1952 flag was shelved upon the restructuring of the county's government, the County Planning Department was tasked with making a proposal. Their proposed flag consisted of three vertical bands of turquoise, green, and yellow, with the county seal in the middle.[1]

After the rejection of a revision of the 1952 flag in 1963, the county tried again two years later, and in 1965, two proposals were made for a new flag of the county. The flag proposed by Coral Gables City Hall was a horizontal tricolor of white, orange, and green, with the county seal in the middle. Planners believed that having the white stripe on the top or bottom was too weak, and having it in the middle was too reminiscent of existing flags, and so the proposal was rejected.
